In the spring of 1996women of Cumberland County united and instituted a study to determine if low cost housing was needed within our community. In December of 1996 The State of Tennessee approved incorporation for the Cumberland County Habitat for Humanity.......

"Then the work of building houses began.  The first house was completed in December, 1998.  Houses 2 and 3 were completed in 1999, followed by 4 homes in 2000, with continued growth each year."

It takes hundreds of volunteers to build houses. In 2006 an affiliate was adopted and was announced as the Habitat Apostles Build Program where local churches sponsor a house and help to build it.

Below are some stats :

Melissa   My husband's ROTARY club (Bull Run, Manassas) is a very active "hands on" Habitat supporter - my ROTARY club (West Springfield) works with Mend - A House - the goals are somewhat the same and it's community service helping the less fortunate  Karen

Melissa, Habitat is a great service. When we lived in Florida, I donated some older items to them instead of selling them in a garage sale.

Melissa~Oh how truly passionate I am about Habitat for Humanity and this post my friend is such a wonderful acknowledgment for all that is done and continues to be done. A lot of people are unaware that the homeowner to be is required to complete 200 hours in the building of their home and when that special person (s) are right by your side pounding nails and all you can see is the pure excitement and joy that they are feeling from that, well that is a blessing.
