If you have been to Edward's Cinemas, Camarillo Premium Outlets, or Camarillo's Target Shopping Center, you probably have seen the big machines at work on our long awaited Camarillo Promenade.

The 29 acres of land just off 101 Freeway will features upscale shops and restaurants.Camarillo Promenade Location

Yes folks it's finally happening. The Promenade that we have been promised is finally under construction by Chelsea Property Group. The residents of Camarillo are to enjoy their Promenade as early as 2009.

This means more jobs and also more traffic for our city. To those Target shoppers, I suggest hitting the store (Target) early after our Promenade is complete. Once we have the Promenade traffic, getting in and out of Target is going to take a little longer. But I'm not complaining. :0)

Mana, this sounds like good news for your area.   I hope it gives your local economy a good boost with the added business and traffic.  And anytime there are additional jobs in the area that is a great thing.

Jeff, Yes it is. Most of the restaurants will have outside seating available to their customers.

Hi Mana,

Sounds neat. We have one too, theaters, shopping, eateries, and a great venue especially in the summer for outdoor concerts and the like. This should be a nice addition to your community. Mana you'll have to share more with us in future as it progresses.

ams_17angela@yahoo.com: Very similar to the ones in the Westlake Promenade. Although, when I talked to some of the upscale boutiques located in the Westlake promenade, they were not sure about opening a store in Camarillo. I know we are getting a Barns & Nobles, and a few restaurants. Everything (except for Barns & Nobles) is not a 100% yet!!!!!!

Are you sure they are going to be putting in a Barnes and Noble?  I have been waiting so long for a big book store to come to Camarillo

JHCRLYGRL, Last time I talked to the city officials they said there was a plan for a Barnes and Nobles in Camarillo's Promenade. However, after I received your comment I called the city planning department and they informed me that since the promenade is an extension of the existing outlets there will be no book store!!!!! :0(

The person I talked to was very optimistic about a big book store in the new development, PASEO CAMINO REAL CENTER, next to our existing Home Depot (I'll be writing about that one soon).

Thank you for reading, I'm really looking forward to a new Barns and Nobles as well.

All I can say is Camarillo is really going to be a place to shop, eat and enjoy, considering the outlet mall already receives the bulk of the visitors in Ventura county, then throw in a new Promenade right down the street from it, then right down the street from the Promenade will be the new Paseo Camino Real shopping center... all on the side of the 101 freeway...

It's going to be great, but I do hope they build in more streets to accomodate the increased traffic.

I can't wait 'til all of this is completed!

Hollywoodmoviewriter, Most Camarillo citizens have been anticipating the promised Promenade for some time now.  I can't wait for the grand opening. As far as the traffic goes, I don't believe the city of Camarillo has any planes to change the existing layout of the roads.

Mana, it may seem nice for all the shoppaholics, but we definitely need much more for the family intertainment. how a bout  a Dave and Busters! Our college age young people would love it and there is definitely nothing like it in Ventura Co. Kids, families and singles would sure make use of it.

How could this be promoted?

E.J, I agree with you. At the time the Promenade was promised to Camarillo, there were talks of great stores such as Barnes and Nobles or Boarders Book Stores. However, as I have come to find out from the city of Camarillo, this new "Camarillo Promenade" is basically another extension of the "Camarillo Outlets". :0(

The Hooters rumor has definitely been floating around. Finally a worthwhile place to watch sports without leaving town! If not Hooters, something fun oriented would be great. Camarillo residents do watch sports in case anyone wondered.

Ronald, That is very true. We do need more fun oriented places for our community and especially sports enthusiast.

If the Camarillo City Council seriously thinks this town should be nothing more than a place to gain revenue from the tens of thousands of visitors whose only reason to come here is to spend money at the Outlet Center, they ought to be booted out.  Why right minded community has no decent book store?  Even Oxnard has a bookstore.  I sincerely hope that the decision is made to mimic the Westlake Promenade rather than create more miles of stores on prime land.  Surely the people making the decisions have an interest in their home values, and creating another little LA will bring them all down.

The decision to build yet another shopping center within a few blocks of what will then be 3 shopping centers is mind numbing.  Why not a museum, or something educational?  I am very frightened for the future of Camarillo with the sort of mentality we are seeing going into these shopping areas.  And a Hooters?  In what way would that sit well with any of the families living here?  Frankly, if that happened, I would ban my family from ever shopping in the Promenade, as well as tell everyone I know who comes from out of town to not bother.

Really....

Long Term Resident, I could not agree with you more. I was so frustrated when I heard that our wonderful city with a growing university will not be getting a bookstore.  Yet there will be a Kohl's coming to Camarillo soon.

Regarding Hooters, don't even get me started.

I own a business in camarillo. I am not some hot young beauty queen, but how much low self esteem do you have to have to protest a Hooters. Yeah Dumb name, but have you ever been inside? Nothing offensive about it, just prettier woman than you. Put a dog chain on your husband so the rest of us can enjoy the chicken wings

"long time residents" always seem to speak too loud.... how bout those of us who were actually born and raised here and who's families go back generations. We have the most meaningful and practical voice. Too many "franchise" retail stores are getting played out. This city has notorious frugal residents and big stores won't do too well. We need FUN places and a hooters OR something else similar definitely falls in that category. Ventura and T.O. should NOT be the only local areas to hang out on weekends.

I was actually hoping the new promenade would mimic "The Lakes" in Thousand Oaks. Unfortunetly it looks like its going to be just more retail stores. Why do we need more of an outlet mall? A nice Claim Jumper or P.F Changs i feel would go very well right there.

These new developments are so disappointing (so far). I was born and raised in Camarillo, but have since opted to move to Ventura about 2 years ago. Why? Because Ventura has fun things to do. There is nothing better than small, non-chain resturants where you know the food quality is good. Camarillo and their lack of vision burns me up. All of this land and more retail space...what for? The outlet mall isn't even that great...unless you live out of town because its a novelty. Why would we want to expand upon that with more nonsense stores! I'd like ot see a Cheesecake Factory or PF Changs if we have to go the chain route. Like someone said earlier, a Dave and Busters would be ideal. In case the old folks running this city forgot, Camarillo has become a college town...even though you wouldn't know it since all of the college students go to T.O or Ventura to have fun. How about keeping the revenue in Camarillo and create, even a small scene, for college kids to congregate and have a fun time at. Just my thoughts...
