I don't know about the rest of the country, but Big Bear is a hard place to show real estate during a holiday weekend. To start with, the traffic gets very heavy at times and makes it difficult to get around. Usually, the traffic is pretty light and driving around much easier than most of Southern California. During big weekends, we get a ton of tourists and things kind of slow to a crawl. Since we have only one main thoroughfare, things can get tight.

Secondly, there are so many folks out looking at property, many times you arrive at the home only to find another Realtor ahead of you and you have to wait until they are finished. If you have tact that is. I have, on occasion, had Realtors just bust in with their clients while I am in the process of showing a home. I don't know about you, but I find it incredibly rude and would never do it myself. Which I find my clients appreciate. Nobody likes rude behavior.

Lastly, and most significantly, many of the homes on the market are also on a vacation rental program. This means many homes are likely going to be rented out and unavailable to be shown. I try to call ahead and check, but sometimes when you are out with clients, you get a better idea of what they are looking for and something else will spring to mind. Sometimes the renters will let you look anyways, but not often. Can you blame them? Many times they are spending hundreds of dollars to rent the home for the weekend and the last thing they want is a bunch of strangers traipsing through.

If the only time you can make it up is on a holiday, we can definitely make it work. However, if you can wait for the next weekend, I think you will find it a much more pleasurable experience. More homes will be available, and it will be much easier getting to them. You won't be rushed and will have less obstacles to overcome in your quest to find a mountain home.
