Dear Haters,

I can appreciate the issue you have with bad REALTORS, God knows how many I have had to put up with and educate while doing a deal with them.  Ignorance, greed, and corruption come in all shapes, sizes, and professions including but not limited to doctors, lawyers, factory worker, REALTORS or even Jeopardy champions.  Whatever the profession, there are always some who are only looking out for their best interest or they just don't care about others.

I will be the first to admit that some of the transactions I deal in go down without a hitch.  Everything from finding or listing the home, to contract, to settlement, to years later there are no problems or issues with most. (This does not include finding a buyer for a listing which is one of the hardest tasks.)

A manual on anything from removing a person's appendix to replacing leaky pipes under a sink can be found.  Anyone could do these things as long as it remained a standard procedure that is in a manual.  The big challenge is if it is not a standard or normal issue, the 20% of things that could arise may suddenly wreak havoc on someone's life.  Without methere, these problems have a better likely hood of happening.  They also may become issues that can only be solved in court when they could have been preempted by me.  I get paid to guide my client's through the entire process with as little stress and problems as possible.  I also get paid for my knowledge and experience to recognize those 20% of transactions that could be problems.  I work to take care of them before they become issues that cost my client time and money in the future.

I am in no way guaranteeing that no issues or problems ever arise with the transfer of real estate because sometimes they will.  Come to think of it neither a MD nor attorney can guarantee any outcome in their fields either.  Most people though, want to forgo the risk and time necessary to do it themselves and pay a REALTOR.  Those of us who are full time professionals do many transaction per year where the average person does one every 7 years.

Please do not cast the same light on all agents as those few greedy, corrupt, and ignorant ones out there doing bad business.  I along with my fellow REALTORS will continue to work hard long hours to improve our respective community's.  We are here and available to help you maneuver the process of buying or selling when you run into challenges on your own.

Sincerely,

Joey Remondino

Unfortunately, the public perception is accurate, as there has always been very little policing in the real estate industry. The time has come for higher standards across the board!

I like that letter. It is tough when people paint all of us with same brush!

Joey, this is a great letter and should get lots of comments.   I did something  little different, but along these lines, several months ago, and had lots of candid consumer input.  The DOJ is working at odds with those of us who want to IMPROVE the industry, by seeking to lower the barriers for participating in this profession.  How crazy is that!

Fortunately Joey many of the newer less experienced Real Estate licensees have called it quits in the challenging market we face.  As a result of the current market conditions-they have gone on to other fields. This will be a big help for average people and should improve the overall quality of service they receive in turn improving public preception of true  Real Estate Experts .  Good luck and sell well!

We have always been defined by the actions of the agents that may not be as professional as the majority of the competent agents. I am hopeful the current economic situation might encourage them to find a new career. Thanks for your post.

Joey, you make some very good points in your letter. I think it's all about education. Educating the public and education the people in our industry. Have you thought about sending your letter to the Potomac News - Letters to the Editor?

Great Post!

I love this post!!!

I think you're right that in every profession their are bad eggs and we get lumped in with every bad agent they've ever met.  All the more reason to demonstrate your knowledge and professionalism by blogging , doing podcasts, etc.  Show them the goods!  Set yourself apart!  I know agents that are still refusing to check their emails!  There is a broad gap between those of us seriously building our business and those just looking to sell a house to pay for their spring break trip.

LOVE IT

Joey, your case in point that the STRENGTH you bring is when things go astray as they often do, you are there. That is a very powerful point.

Hi Joey!

Great comment!  I have clients that tell me the hell they have been through with their previous realtors and the main complaint is that the realtor doesn't return the phone call.  I think that all of us realtors need to realize also that we are in this business together and really need to "help" one another instead of trying to compete with one another.  This business will really come together with realtors seeing us all on the same side of the fence...that's trying our best to help our clients.

Joey,

In this market , if you are operating without a Realtor, you are operating without a net. Period.

Obeo supports Relators everywhere. We sell our serivces to licensed Realtors.

Joey,

Great letter.  We have done damage to our reputation, there is no question.  I am trying to establish myself as a green Realtor, and you should read some of the comments on my latest blog (why should I give a green damn).  The most negative comments come from fellow Realtors.

Talk about not wanting to join the program.

Great post, shows courage and conviction.

Awesome.

Hi Joey..we're neighbors, I'm in Haymarket..... there are good and bad in every profession...for some reason (and I think probably for good reason) it's the jobs with commission sales that get the bad rap......
