2" purple shag carpet diamond ringI know you guys are probably thinking that this has something to do with staging, but surprise!  Not a smidge!  I am hesitant to admit this, but we have 2" purple shag carpets in our house.  The entire top floor actually (it's a play room/entertainment area up there).

I REALLY love it.  We got extra thick pad too, so it's super cushy to walk on.  I know it's not everyone's taste, and I considered taking it out a couple of years ago when we replaced all the rest of our carpet (which was quite old) with non-toxic natural wool carpet, but I couldn't bring myself to pull it out 'toxic' or no (besides it cost a fortune)!  It was one of the first things we did to the house when we moved in almost 5 years ago.  The carpet that was in when we bought the house was this hideous teal color.

At any rate, I no longer REALLY love my purple shag carpet.  Until last week, the reason was because it is IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean with my girls running/crawling around all over it trailing bits of food behind them, spilling drinks and pulling at the carpet.   They love being up there!  What a NIGHTMARE!

Then last week, I had a whole new reason to loath the purple shag.  My daughter was playing with my engagement ring and I totally forgot she had it.  Later I remembered that we were in that room and my stomach lurched!  I have spent the last week foraging on my hands an knees, sifting my fingers through the carpet in the huge room.  OMG, it could be anywhere!  She could have swallowed it, what if she flushed it down the toilet.....

I FINALLY found it today, lodged in the flokati rug.  I am so relieved!  It's not like it was massively expensive, but in losing it I discovered that I'd grown attached to it over the years.  I'm lucky that my husband is totally oblivious (you know, the type that doesn't notice when I chop 6 inches off my hair).

The worst thing was wearing just my wedding band all week; it felt so weird.  There is a dent in my finger where my engagement ring is supposed to be, the skin is softer there.  Wow, it just amazes me that my hubby and I are coming up to our 4 year anniversary!  Time flies!

Do you have any engagement/wedding ring stories to share????

Hi Jessica,

I don't have a story to share, but sure did like yours!  Thank goodness you found the ring before the kids did!

I have a question...did you take that picture with your new camera?  How's that going?

Jessica ~ So glad to see you found your ring!  I can imagine that must have been a nightmare!

I lost my wedding ring while riding in the rain in around Lancaster.  It was cold and rainy, my finger shriveled up.  The next morning I woke up in my tent and the ring was gone.  I panic looking all over the camp ground for it.  Nothing.  It was not a lovely diamond like yours, just a simple wide gold band.  Well my hubby was not with me at the time, I called an told him I lost my ring and I was so sorry.  He met up with  me in N.J. at my Dad's house...with a brand new gold band!

We left Dad's house to rejoin the bike trip.  When I opened my panniers to "get organized again" I found my original gold band.  It had conveniently fallen off in my pannier!  I was so delighted to find it again.

Now I have two gold bands, but only one really favorite one!

Kristal~ How lucky, what are the odds of that!  What a wonderful gesture on your husband's part.

Val~ I did take that with my new camera.  I was trying to be 'artistic' with the focus, but I'm still working out the glitches.  I had a lot of fun with it at first and tested it out, took beautiful photos after the snow.  Went to downtown Boulder to get some good shots......  THEN LOST ALL OF THEM!  My hard drive DIED, on my 5 month old laptop, which I bought to replace my tower computer which crashed 6 months ago.  I was able to recover my staging photographs from my tower and put them on my new laptop, but when my laptop HD broke I LOST EVERYTHING PERMENANTLY (long story)!  So I have lost my entire staging portfolio, and all of my photos using my new camera.   I had started to photograph and catalogue my inventory, gone are the Christmas photos, adorable photos of the girls.  It doesn't even bare speaking about.  I'm sick over it.

So that's why I never posted about the new camera and showed you pictures.  I need time for the wound to heal.

I'm not married and don't have a pretty ring like yours. But I did lose my grandmothers wedding ring for about a year. I looked and looked and just couldn't believe it was gone. I'm pretty fussy about putting things away in the right place. After a year of looking it was on my ring holder, exactly where it was suppose to be. I have never figured out why I couldn't find it. This has nothing to do with carpet but everything to do with being a blonde.

Dena~  OMG, you ARE a blonde!  That is hilarious!  That was a case of 'can't see the tree for the forest' huh?

Jessica, if you are right that explains why I can't find a husband!

Dena~  Nope, I think good husbands are just plain hard to come by when you are strong, independent , capable and intelligent.  I discovered that finding someone who would share equally in the child rearing and housekeeping (but still change the lightbulbs for me) is darned near impossible.  I'm gonna hold tight!

I'm so glad you found it!  Once my little niece but my ring in a visiting neighbor's purse.  She was so upset that we would think she had stolen it.  Better in the rug then in the neighbor's purse :)

I found a piece of metal on the floor once ... it looked familiar.  It was my wedding ring insert all twisted up, with no diamonds left.

It was yellow gold with two rows of diamonds you slide the solitaire into and kind of looked like the insert here:

For some reason, my son decided to chew on it. It was purchased from a store called Service Merchandise.  When I took it back there to see if anything could be done, they thought the story was so funny they gave me a new one.  A few years later, my son needed two crowns on his lowers.  The dentist said, he must have been chewing on something hard and broke them.  Cha ching, I think that was about two grand.

Uh, that marriage didn't quiet work.  Ring's in a box. I should give it to the boy (he's 19 now) for when he decides to walk the plank.   At least there's a story to go with it, now.

Ok, wouldn't you know it! I'm the only guy on here with a wedding ring story!

When i was a young man and 1st married (1973) I'm 55 now. I worked for Texas Instruments. Behind the building was a metal grate about four or five feet off the ground and beside it was a trash dumpster. You know..one of those big ones. Well one day I took the trash out there and dumped it over into the top of the dumpster. All in one swift move my ring flew off my finger and I suddenly went "Dumpster Diving!" Do you realize how much trash and yuck there is in one of those dumpsters and how small a ring is? I knew I couldn't go home with out it and finally found it and retrieved it and wifey was none the wiser.

oh, yeah, that was back when Shag carpet was 1st popular. If I remember right you had to rake it.

Chris~ That is too funny!  I can imagine how you must have felt when you found that gnarled peice of metal that was your ring.  I read about your twins birthdays on your other blog, but I think you must have the age wrong!  There is no way you could have 19 year old kids!  You're barely 20 yourself.  I think it's a great idea to give your son the ring!

Danny~ That doesn't sound like one bit of fun!  Did you ever tell your wife?  Yep, this shag also should be raked and you can't use a beater brush vacuum on it either.  What was I thinking???

Jessica, I'm impressed with purple shag carpet, I would really love to see a pic of the whole room.

I can relate to how you must have felt when you realized the ring was lost.  I have lost more jewelry than I want to think about but most recently a diamond hoop earring that fell off w/in a month of receiving for my birthday, never to be found again.  I'm SO glad for you that you found your ring.

Oops, this isn't an engagement/wedding ring story I just get all excited when we talk about diamonds!

Gina~ it's all good.  I'd go spare as well if I lost a diamond hoop earring!  I'll have to take a photo of the room later and upload it.  I might not get another job as a stager if I do though!

My engagement ring is pretty much the only diamond jewelry I have.  I don't really wear anything else, I'm terrible with jewelry.  Oh, except the pair of small diamond earrings my husband gave to me the day our firstborn daugther arrived.  It was a sweet gesture and a total surprise.  They are in a box somewhere in my bathroom drawer.........  For the second daughter I got a NEW STOVE!  Which do you think I went more ga-ga over ;)

I acutally have a funny story about when my DH proposed!  He proposed to me on Christmas Day and when my family was all opening presents there was nothing under the tree for me from him.  I was trying hard not to get upset, but when we sat down to open presents I started to cry.  He leant over and whispered that he had my present, but wanted to wait to give it to me until after my family left.  That got my brain going!!  I was trying to think of what he could possibly have gotten me that he didn't want to give me in front of my family!  The only thing I could think of was some kind of sexy underclothes.  I was SO miffed.  Didn't he understand that Christmas was not the time to be getting something like that (unless you're married and it's not the ONLY thing you got KWIM!).  As soon as my family left and we were alone in the house I started giving him the silent treatment.  He said he wanted to take me up to the top floor (yep, the purple shag room) and give me my gift.  His idea was to take me out on the balcony we have up there to propose to me under the stars.  As he dragged me up the stairs I lost it and told him that "whatever it is, just take it back!  I don't even want to see it"  When he popped the box out I still was thinking "jewelry, why couldn't he just give me earrings in front of my family"  When he got down on one knee it finally clicked!  The funniest thing is that I really hated the diamond (well I disliked diamonds in general) it was over 1.5 carots and was really 'sticky-out'.  I made him take it back.  I settled on one that was around .75 (1/2 the size!) researched it online, bought the loose diamond online and had the setting made at a local goldsmith making sure to get a setting that was as flush as possible.  Occassionaly I suffer from ring envy, and kind of regret that I went for such a small diamond, but in the end it's 'me' :)

WOW, I hijacked my own post...
