Being a redhead myself, I can say this: Durham is the "Red-headed Stepchild" of the Triangle area of North Carolina.

The Triangle comprises primarily of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill -- and many surrounding cities and towns. But, Durham is definitely the point in the triangle that has something to prove. The beauty of our position is that we try harder -- both to share the many great things about our city and to continue improving our city in ways that surprise residents and visitors alike.
The Durham Chamber of Commerce and the Durham Convention and Visitor's Bureau are doing a great job of promoting an image of the Durham we are so proud of. Here are some national accolades that support their slogan, Durham: Where Great Things Happen.

Three of Durham Public Schools’ six traditional high schools are on Newsweek Magazine's “Top 1,000 High Schools” list. (2006)

As a realtor in Durham, specializing in Southwest Durham, and specifically in the neighborhoods of Parkwood, Woodcroft, Woodlake, and Hope Valley Farms, I have found that these awards are making my job pretty easy. Being a red-headed stepchild has turned out to be a great life for me, and it looks like Durham is thriving in the role, too.
