Now this is exciting news!  According to this Cnet article the 106 MPG air car will be arriving in the US in late 2009 or early 2010.

From the article:  "According to its initial, estimated, specifications the Air Car will go 848 miles on an 8 gallon tank of gas. The size of the compressed air tank isn't included in the specifications. Further, the car has a top speed of 96 mph, with its power plant putting out 75 horsepower. When traveling at low speeds, the car has zero emissions, while in high speed mode it has some emissions because of its use of gasoline. "

I would love to have one of these and the more I learn I would be happy to use this for more than tooling around town. The idea of going from SLC to Vegas and Back on one tank is very appealing!

Directly from the Air Car website on price:  "We estimate the cost of purchasing a six-seater, 75hp Air Car will be approximately $17,800, proving that buying "green" doesn't have to cost more. Not only is the price amazingly affordable, but it will cost you up to five times less in fuel consumption than an equivalent gasoline powered car. The Air Car is a totally new breed of cars entirely conceived to achieve low prices:"  At that price it is only $600 more than my Scion Xb.

Do you ever wonder if the technology is really out there and being surpressed or just wishful thinking?

That would be great.  Any idea what the cost of it will be?  The way us Realtors drive all over it would halp the bank book for sure.

Now, if I could just get one in a Honda Ridgeline or a Hummer SUT.  Then I would be all up for this car.  It is sad to think that we have the technology to send people to the moon, but not get good gas mileage.  Wait, we do, the oil companies need more 100 billion a year profits.

Andrew, I blogged about that a while back, but at the time there was no news as to delivery dates, as they had just recently contracted with Tata motors in India for production. I am definitely going to purchase one. Do you have any news as to where they will land first? How can we find out what dealers will be selling them, do you know? Thanks for the update. I can't wait!

Terry - Visit the Zero pollution motors website for all the details.  They will be taking reservation early this year and will be delivering directly to the buyers.  They will not be going through dealers.  I am pretty sure I will be reservng one if they stay true to the price.

Andrew - I had not heard of this car, and we've been hovering in the wings waiting for the right technology at the right price to replace our Honda Civic Hybrid. Definitely a possiblity here. Thanks for letting us know about this!

Looks like this is going to be the new winner if the prices of oil continue to go up

Thanks for the link Andrew. I went right to their website the day I heard about the cars a few months ago and put in my "request" for two. Not sure if that is a real request or if they were just looking to see what kind of interest they had.

Andrew, I am pretty sure the oil companies have been helping keep this kind of technology off the streets. I will be glad to buy something like this so can't wait!

How cool~maybe someday we'll make it into the Jetson era and be flying above the road traffic in our cars. Amazing to see what's going to happen in the future!

BTW, like your last name! :)
