There's been quite a lot of buzz about the book, "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle. It's a book about finding your life's purpose. I think it's Oprah's February book club selection.

The seminar is to be 10 weekly sessions, webcast Mondays at 9p EST. Starts in early March. I think they'll discuss a chapter each night, and you're to read the book in advance of the discussions to get the most from them. I hear it's a pretty complicated book.

I'm always looking for useful spiritual guidance, and this seems like a good (and free) opportunity. Has anyone else heard about this, and are you taking part?

I meant to sign up, so I guess this is my reminder. Thanks Dawn!

I hear that over 250,000 have already signed up! Maybe if we and other AR members sign up, we can make a group to discuss the discussion. (?). Give it an AR twist?! Thanks for your comment!

I applaud Oprah for doing this.  She could just spend her time counting her $ instead of helping other people improve.  I've been meaning to sign up.

Karen, I agree. I heard her say once on the show "I don't do this for the money -- I don't need any more shoes!" She does it because it's her life's purpose and passion. I am astounded by her energy and commitment to making a difference in the world. If you sign up, maybe we can touch base about what we're getting out of it, and how it can apply to our careers?

Yay! I'm excited, too! I just bought the book yesterday. At Target it was only $11 and change. I'll be eager to hear what everyone thinks once it gets rolling. Thanks for  your comment!

Eleven bucks?  I'm there.  I look forward to discussing the book with fellow realtors.

Whatever happened to "The Seret" that Oprah was pushing a while back? I am curious if anyone here had "life changing experiences"? I never stick to anything like that long enough to see for myself :)

Cindy, let me butt in on Dawn's blog for a moment if I may.  I haven't read The Secret, but have seen the DVD and have been reading books like it for years.  If my memory serves, the main thought of The Secret is "What you think is what you get." and/or "Form an intention, concentrate on it and it will come to pass."

I have used this successfully many times in my life.  No, I'm not a gazillionaire but I'm inching closer.

About A New Earth, it seems to be another facet of the same philosophy.  Just the foreword is blowing my mind!

Thanks for the input. Karen, that is exciting. Perhaps I should stick with it this time!

Karen -- I know! $11 for a potentially life-changing seminar seems like the deal of the century! I started reading last night, and I'm already hooked! Can't wait to hear what you think!

Cindy and Karen -- Karen, you aren't "butting in" -- this is an arena for discussion! I appreciate yourThe Secret was amazing to me! It was such an elementary concept, but with very intricate and far-reaching details and implications. I definitely have a more positive focus, and as a result, have seen many good things come my way. I get an email regularly from the Secret folks with tips and encouragement. You can sign up for it free online. There are days that the stories have me boohooing at my computer. They're so inspirational!

The Secret and The New World overlap a great deal, in thinking about how we are one with everyone and everything. They both focus on tapping into your inner goodness to make a difference in the world. I'm all for having regular chats with realtors after each seminar session to see what peoples' thoughts are, and how they're applying it to their professional and personal lives. And, most importantly, how we can stick to it -- because that's a huge challenge for me, too. Thanks to you both for your interest -- let's stay in touch, ok?

Wow -- this does sound interesting.  I don't know anything about the book.  I will have to try to take a look at it and see if this would be something to participate in.  Thanks for the heads up.

Joan -- I can't wait for the first session next week! I'm having a hard time envisioning what a web seminar is like. But, I am enjoying the book, and when you sign up for the seminar you get worksheets for each chapter that has you applying the information to your own life. I have enjoyed doing the worksheet -- it's very thought-provoking. It's extremely esoteric, so if you enjoy that type of thing, this may be for you! Good luck!

One of the guys from The Secret statred emailing me about some web thing that you can make 990.00 for for doing nothing. That really kind of turned me off. It sounded like a scam that you send in money and he starts hitting on peoples email until they send money to get money and so on. He was one of the guys on The Secret movie/cd.

Oprah is just one more wolf dressed in sheelp cloth to mis-guide you all down the path of "spirituality" and "finding yourself". All I can do is advise you all to look deep, very deep, before you sign up for anything that Oprah is behind. Yes, she does this for the "good" of humanity, but she "double-talks" and has two faces. Make sure you know who you're "following" and which face she's presenting before you so willing and blindly sign up for her "free seminar to find yourself".

Cindy -- That's very disturbing! I hope it wasn't James Ray, or someone who I actually respect. . . Maybe one of the more minor participants -- that guy who talked about getting checks in the mail? That bothered me in the movie. I thought he missed the whole point, which is to make a difference in the world by realizing your true potential. Thanks for the heads up!

anon -- It's always smart to look carefully at advice before following it. Thanks for the reminder.

I'm definitely doing the class! The book is difficult to "get into" at first, but it is turning out to be an excellent read.

By the way, I purchased it for around $8.99 at BJ's club.

Hey Darleen -- Good deal on the book at BJs -- that beats Target's  price! I started reading the book, and before page 20, I was highlighting half the book. It's chock-full of some really interesting and though-provoking info. Now to move it from theory into practice . . .that's the trick. Good luck with the class! I'd love to hear how other realtors are incorporating the course into their business and personal lives. Thanks for your comments!

Kevin and Monica -- I'd love to start hearing some feedback on the seminar. I had trouble logging in both nights, so I've gone to their website after the fact. I still really enjoy it!

My sister has been trying to talk me into signing up, but I haven't been able to justify the time spent.  Just reading your responses, maybe I'll go ahead and do it.  Thanks for the motivation I needed! Barb

Barb -- I have found it fascinating so far, and it's not too late to jump in! Let us know what you think! Thanks for the comment!

Gayle -- Given this seminar's reception, I'd guess they would be doing another in the near future. Or, I'd also guess that the sessions from this book will be archived and available for catching up when you have more time. Thanks for stopping by, Gayle!

On the surface, this seminar series may look inviting, but I echo the sentiments of PF above.  Please be extra careful to see through the "feel good" part of this message and explore its true fundamental claims.  I've found it to be very disturbing when you dig deeper and find out what they're really proclaiming.

I listened to the discussion they had two weeks ago on the regular Oprah show when all the prople were talking about their "ah ha"moment. Somewhere in the midst of it they mentioned that God sends many prophets like Jesus Christ to show us the way. I knew then that it was wrong for me because Jesus is the son of the living God, not just some prophet. I can't join the train although it does sound fun and exciting.
