I've often wondered about the animal kindgom and how their goals are instinctively written in some little centre of their neural system, somewhere in a centre of their brain....or are they?

What makes a Robin work again and again at re-building a nest, in the exact same place someone has just taken it down? What is telling the Robin that this is THE place for this year's nest?
Does a Robin go through a goal writing period when it arrives back in the late winter/early spring and once it finds a perfect place to build a nest, inscribe that goal somewhere in indelible ink in it's brain cells?

A Robin won't give up. Eventually the human gives up and lets the Robin build there, at least that's what I've seen take place.  Again and again, through repeated attempts and failures, the Robin tries and tries, until at last, success!

Singular focus is an element of survival and instinctive in most animals. It is part of the subconscious mind, similar to the way habits become hardwired into our brain.

I've written extensively about the subconscious mind and how you can use it to assist you toward achieving your goals, however there is a step that needs to be taken before the subconscious mind can go to work. That step entails telling the subconscious mind what to go to work on. From there it all falls into place as the goals take on a life of their own, similar to the Robin's nest building.

  • Have you laid out your goals for this year yet?

  • Have you written a business plan?

  • What about a life plan?

All of these are extremely important if you want to attain certain things in life and in business. A business plan, similar to a life plan, must have a guiding mission or essence.

What is the guiding mission of your business? Have you thought about it?
Have you set down specific numbers in relation to the number of transactions you wish to achieve for this year and why?

Without a 'why', your goals will fail. Everything needs a purpose or an inspiration to keep it running.

The Robin's instinct for procreation keeps it building the nest over and over. It doesn't essentially know why, it just knows it has to.
Kahlil Gibran would call this 'Life's longing for itself." Therein lays the answer.

Life longs for itself. Life longs to create itself and desires beauty and harmony and this unstoppable desire goes on, with you, or without you.
Life wishes for you to take part in the dance of creation and the fulfillment of the desire it has for itself, and it whispers to you the part you're to take by giving you dreams and desires.
What are your dreams and desires? Lay out your dreams and desires and you will have the initial building blocks of your plans, both in  business and in your life.
Without defining your desires and dreams, your subconscious mind does not know where you wish to go, or what it's role is.

Take out a pen and paper, a PHYSICAL pen and paper, and find a quiet place, right now.
Let your mind drift and let it hear all the whispers that the universe is calling out to it.....these are your dreams, these are your desires.

  • If you could be living the perfect life for you right now, what would it look like?

  • Are you living in the city in a highrise condominium overlooking the ocean, or are you living in a small but efficient forest house overlooking a beautiful lake or the mountains?

  • Who is with you?

  • Are you alone or do you have a partner and does that partner have a face, or is it someone you haven't met yet?

  • What are you doing for an income?

  • What would you LIKE to be doing for an income?

These questions are just the beginning of defining your dreams and desires for your life plan.

Similarly, when planning your business, how do you picture your business looking?
Do you desire to be the number one agent/mortgage broker/whatever in your area or do you prefer to be comfortable with a slower paced business volume?

Think very clearly on these questions and listen to what the universe tells you for these are the answers that make up the blueprint of your life and business.
This is the blueprint you're supposed to define and follow towards happiness, the one and only reason for your life here on earth.

Life longs for itself and it longs for itself to be happy. You are life, and the path to happiness is easily achievable once you set out the dreams and desires that life has for you.

From there you can take those dreams and desires and begin to break them down into achievable goals and subsequently, a plan.

The more you write down, the more you will sense your subconscious mind gathering up it's tools and setting itself to work. Your subconscious mind is made to be put to work, it longs to be put to work and it's up to you to give it a job to do.

Hi Linda,

I'm glad this post was of some help to you and arrived at the right time... it's hard to juggle everything that we do on a daily basis, however with a plan in place, part of the juggling takes care of itself.

Hi Jo, my life seems to intersect with my career in so many ways, I tend to re-invent myself every year or two and I'm sort of still figuring out what I want to be when I "grow up". It's a fun process...

Jo~I'm taken away by your post and then I started reading the comments and Fran's comment just really touched me in such a profound way. I remember being in fear to share my heart on AR because there may be people that would not be so accepting of a very open heart. Then one of my dear friends said, "God wants you to share what is in your heart Julie, He wants you to reach out to others here", those words like Fran's comment are exactly what I started doing. When I let the very thick wall down, I found I completely enjoyed it here so much better. I only want to be me and not hide behind so much fear and in doing so the friends I have made here, well, I will sincerely treasure forever, you being one of them.  Now to the topic. I have my business plan and goals written down, but a life plan? No. That is on the top of my list my friend. Thank you so much for following your heart and sharing this very important step with all of us. Big hugs to you!

Fran,

I love your comment!
Similarly, my blog is a part of my conversation with the universe/God. I just write what comes to my mind from somewhere out there in the ether.

I'm notoriously happy.....it's been like this for a long time now.

Hi Marti!

I believe that the artistic temperament is in a constant state of discovery and re-invention, don't you? My life is forever unfolding and I don't worry over it anymore....in fact, I enjoy the ride.

Do you think that this is diametrically opposed to my post topic?

Hi Julie,

Thanks!

Remember that famous speech written by Marianne Williamson that starts

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

So beautiful, isn't it??  I'm so glad you let your light shine, Julie.....what a beautiful and bright light it is.

A life plan can be designed at any age.....and it's always good to have one; that way, we'll be sure to reach our destination while we still have time, rather than arriving at the end and wondering why we never got to where we wanted to go.

Jo,

I think we are referring to the same entity when I refer to God and you refer to the 'universe'...only I believe that voice we both hear comes from within not from somewhere out in the 'ether'!!! :) Thanks,   Fran

Fran,

Yes, we are speaking of the intelligent life force...only I don't believe that the intelligent life force is a 'male' superpower of some sort. Instead I believe that the entire universe, including you and I, are all one being....and yes, the voice comes from within and from there, everywhere.
To me, the voice surrounds me and is me and is you and is everything. Margaret Atwood said it best: "God is not the voice in the whirlwind, God is the whirlwind."

and Einstein~ "A knowledge of the existence of something we cannot penetrate, of the manifestations of the profoundest reason and the most radiant beauty-it is this knowledge and this emotion that constitute the truly religious attitude, in this sense, and this alone, I am a deeply religious man."

Jo,

I can see how hard it would be to believe that God is one and has given a name to each person and each of the trillions of stars that exist in the created universe... but I believe in Him and know Him!!! Thanks,   Fran

BTW, God by definition is 'sexless'...He contains within himself both maleness and femaleness!!!

Hi Jo,

Wow, what a post.

Yes to your first 3 bullet point, no to the remainder. You've given me a further digram for planning, thank you. BTW, once I commit to paper (for me personally) it becomes real, that's when I take ownership of a plan. Simply put, it frees us my mind, and it's time to move forward.

How true. We can never completely know what is coming along our journey, however faith and surrender will guide us along more smoothly than if we were going it alone.

Fran,

I believe that everything is within our own perception and we each come to it differently.

What matters most is that we do the best we can to bring harmony and peace so that all may have a better life.
Each religion and each spirituality that follows this credence, to me, is right and good, as are it's followers.

Lynda,

I believe you've just shown me why writing something down works...' it frees up my mind, and it's time to move forward.'....thanks for saying that.

Now I understand so much more.  Looking at it this way, writing goals and plans down is an incredibly 'freeing' thing to do. Kind of like de-cluttering of the mind.

Thank you!

Yes! How very true. And without a map or a destination in mind, we just end up going wandering aimlessly around and never reaching where we wanted to go.

Hi Kathy,

I agree completely. Flexibility is so important as we never know what lays along the path we're taking....my life course has been drastically changed on more than one occasion due to circumstances that were beyond my control.

Wow, Jo, I certainly AM late to the rain today!  The discussion here was almost as interesting as the post!  I can answer all but the last, I don't have a life plan and you've mentioned that before.  but I do have many plans and they are written down (on my refridgerator where I am sure to see them often!). As they materialize, I change them.  Now to the Life Plan (that's a difficult one!).

Hi Carole,

Very few people have a life plan. Imagine if we all wrote down a life plan, or were taught how to make one, when we were young? I think many more people would realize their dreams in the course of their lifetime.

That's a good place to keep your plans...ie. on the refrigerator. When you think about it, plans are a naturally progressing thing, so I can see why you have to change them over time...

A life plan is a bit scary, since it involves at looking at the rest of our lives and what we want to accomplish. It's kind of putting a time stamp on our life.

Hello Jo,

What a wonderful post....wow! I think once again I am lost for words??!! You seem to have a way of doing that to me. After reading all the comments I think everyone has summed it very nicely for me. You have me really thinking now, I really needed to read this as I am having a pity party for one right now. Thanks Jo!!

Trace,

Thanks for your thoughtful and wonderful way of showing support for my posts. I always appreciate it far more than you'll likely ever realize.

I hope that writing down your dreams and desires will lead you to a business plan (for the home staging business you'd like to have and I KNOW you'd be AWESOME at) and a life plan for how you wish your life to look in the future.

I'm sorry to hear you're having a rough week and I'm glad that this post may have helped you somewhat,

Hi Jo,

Thanks! Thanks, for all your kind words.

My life plan is great I know how I want to be and am sure that is the way it will be. But it is the business part that is not working out for us. We had/have a plan but it is on hold until we can get other things straightened out. But I am sure with time all will work it's self out one way or the other.

Hi Trace,

It sounds like you are on track with getting things to where you want them to go.....I believe that everything falls into place when all things are in place for them to do so.

Have a great weekend!
