Leatherwood Falls, Hayesville North Carolina

North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains have many beautiful waterfalls throughout the northeast counties (Fannin, Union, Towns, Gilmer and Pickens).  But I did not know about this waterfall near Hayesville (Clay County) North Carolina called Leatherwood Falls until very recently.  My one regret is that the batteries in my camera were dead.  But that's ok, because I do plan to visit the Falls again.

Leatherwood Falls are about twenty-five feet high and has a picnic area, metal walk bridge and a paved track along Fires Creek.  The recreation area is beautiful and worth a a hike on the trail which wraps arount the Falls.  Spend a day in the Appalachain Mountains and picnic at Leatherwood Falls.  Kick back and relax and let the sound of the water wash your cares away.

 Directions:

From Hayesville, on U.S. 64W, take NC 1301 northeast 3 miles to NC 1300. Then travel west 5.7 miles to FR 1344 (at Fire's Creek sign). Drive north 1.6 miles to Fires Creek parking area.

Other places to see:

Blairsville  Georgia (Union County)

Copperhead Lodge (Union County)

Swan Drive-In (Fannin County)

Twin Cities (Fannin County Georgia, Polk County Tennessee)

Historic Downtown Blue Ridge (Fannin County)

North Georgia always in season

Donna - Thank you for the information about Leatherwood Falls.  It's sure to be on my mini vacation list of things to do.

We are blessed to live in North Georgia where there are so many wonderful outdoor activities.  It's also part of the reason why people fall in love with the North Georgia mountains as soon as they visit!

Of all my travels, North Georgia is the place that has everything...beautiful sunrises and sunsets, awesome mountains, lush forest, crystal clear rivers and pure lakes.  Not to mention fishing, hiking, horseback riding trails, camping, rafting, and blessed peace and quiet!!!

There's nothing like sitting outside.  Nature soothes the soul.  Especially when there are no sirens, no news helicopters, very, very few airplanes, no mosquitoes, no neighbors looking at your every move - just wonderful nature.

As I've said many time, it's wonderful here - even in the rain.....because the rain produces double rainbows in our North Georgia Mountains!

Carole:  With spring right around the corner, it will be great to go back for another visit.  It's was just one of those times, batteries died and no back ups.  You know I could have kicked myself. LOL

Donna, Sounds like a beautiful place, I like the list of other places also.  One of my favorites is the Swan Drive In.  The first time I took the kids, they couldn't believe we were going to sit in the back of the vechicle and watch the movie.  Just like old times.

Bonnie:  Thanks for your comment.  I wish I had a nice picture of the waterfall to post.  I just love that the Swan Drive In is still in operation.  It's a nice taste of nostalgia for me and a kick for my grandkids!

Donna, Did you get any pictures of Today's Snow?  We had about an inch in Ellijay.  I heard you have about 2 to 3 inches in Blue Ridge.

Barbara:  No, I haven't taken any pictures.  It was quite a surprise when I looked out early this morning.  I guess the forecasters must have been forecasting it but I haven't seen the news in a couple of days, so didn't know we were in for more snow.  I would say 2 inches at my house for sure.
