When I was a little kid growing up in Salem New Hampshire there was a place called Mystery Hill Caves. Mystery Hill drew the attention of us kids in a magical scary way. We went out of our way to talk about or should I say invent scary Mystery hill stories. I loved the place and lived within walking distance.

Mystery Hill was known to be a cool maze of man-made chambers, walls and ceremonial meeting places. Ceremonial meeting places...sacrifice chambers is what we called them.

At night the place was pretty spooky but by day it was a fun place to visit. Over the course of time Mystery Hill turned into America's Stonehenge at Mystery Hill and it has a very interesting history including Archaeoastronomy, the Underground Railroad system to The Davinci Code and much more.

America's Stonehenge, they claim on their website, is most likely the oldest man-made construction in the United States (over 4000 years old) and it covers 105 acres of woodlands and wildlife. Check out their web site for details on all they have to offer www.stonehengeusa.com

It's a great place to spend the day, you can explore the caves or go snowshoeing and just plain enjoy some quality time!

Located in Salem New Hampshire America's Stonehenge is one of many fine places and events that NH living offers.

If you are considering moving to the State of New Hampshire you'll be pleasantly surprised at all we have to offer.

Hi Monika - this is one place I've never been but have read about a number of times.  Maybe this spring or summer, Bear and I will venture there.  I think he's taken his kids there, and the history of that place sounds really interesting.  I had no idea there was a connection to the Underground Railroad or to the Da Vinci Code....very interesting!  How far from you is that?

From Hampstead only about 10-15 minutes Ann. I used to live very close to it growing up. It is a pretty interesting place. Maybe we can go together...Jay and I haven't been in about 8 years or so.

Monika - You're too funny! 10-15 minutes away to me is just like a little bit down the road. How close do you have to live to be very close?? When I first moved to Texas I had to drive 45 minutes to the grocery store! LOL

Linda...LOL...10-15 minutes to me is not very close at all. But 45 minutes to drive to a grocery store is way too far!!! Yikes.

It used to drive me crazy when I first moved here. The town I'm from in Tennessee is fairly small (was then) and you could walk to town fairly easily. I never thought about driving to a friend's house when you could walk. Most people's work commute down here is an average of 30 min. one way.

Monika -- this is one place I have always wanted to visit.  I keep driving by it and have never had time to go there.  Maybe we will have to have an AR outing there.  Thanks for highlighting this New Hampshire adventure.

Monika, I have to admit living here almost my entire life, I never knew about this.  I'll have to go check it out with my family sometime.

Well heck, we can just have a New England AR get together just down the road at Stonehenge!  I'd like it if we could wait till the snow is gone and coats, gloves and scarves aren't needed though.....  ;-)

Well ...I think we can plan that Ann. George will come up and both Joan and Bill will come over. Jay and Bear can us as well. We'll have a blast.

George...When do you think you'll be up here?

Bill...Never? Wow. It's a pretty neat place.

Joan...We'll have to plan a get together soon.

Linda...Can you take a road trip???

Moni, I can't tell you how many times I have driven by there and wondered. I guess I need to make it a destination in the near future.
