Any Ideas for First Time Homebuyer Fair???

By
Real Estate Agent with Better Homes and Gardens Rand Realty

Good Morning,

This week I will be attending a planning session for Catch the Dream Orange County a home-buyer information fair and vendor bazaar.  I am excited about being involved in this effort.  I was a vendor at the fair last year along with two other agents from my office and it was great for a first year effort.  There were over 500 in attendance at the free for consumer event.  Our County Executive, the head of the Office of Community Development, and a group of others including builders, real estate agents, mortgage representatives, and community activists are joined together in this effort.  I am hoping that I can help to make it even better this year.

Does anyone have any interesting ideas for home-buyer seminars or some exciting thoughts on promoting events like these?  It would be great to have some proposals for sessions and promotions that have worked elsewhere.

Thanks for any help you can give,

I remember attending a First Time Home Buyer Fair in Alexandria, VA several years ago with a fellow agent. She and I thought some of it was boring because it was just a table with lenders and agents handing out cheap propmotional items. But there was one presentation by a home inspector that we noticed had high attendance and the consumers had LOTS of questions. The home inspector presenting the seminar was great because he give good tips on what to look for when seeing a home for the first time. He also explained the types of things that are typical maintenance for homeowner to expect to do on their own home. He didn't scare people away, but he expressed the importnace of a good home inspection as an educational tool in the homebuying process.

I think that a stager talking about tricks of the trade would be very interesting to consumers as well. My buyers are definitely watching HGTV and know all about staging. Or at least they think they do.

Good luck!
