Well water class

Just took a well inspection class. It was very informative. When I download everything I got I will begin to post. Suffice it to say any realtors that have someone interested in purchasing a home that usese well water in the house should highly recommend a well inspection. Some of the information I got from this class I had no idea about. and there are some frightening pictures of how wells become contaminated. I will try to post a few charts on what can be found and the things that need to be corrected to fix them. Just be aware that this can become a very serious issue. A quick example is if the well is within 1 mile of a gas station currently in operation but also and more importantly not in operation when the tanks are removed if they have been removed the EPA requires a set of smapling wells be dug in specific areas so that they can be tested for water contamination by petreleum byproducts for many years after. Think about this a moment. 1 MILE from a gas station and they test the ground water for years to come. Just some food for thought.

Mark: What is the recommended frequency to test your well? Besides if it tastes bad, of course. 8-)

I alwayc cringe when someone forgoes the well water and well system inspection. City people especially think the country must have good water and be pure, but there are contaminated areas here due to improperly capped old wells and due to decades of farm chemical use.

TARA sorry it took so long to get back with you It has been rather busy here in the upstate. I would recommend every 2 years at the minimum. If you live in a rural area maybe more often. It is not that expensive to be safe especially if you do not filter your water if it is from a well. BRENDA I agree I have found that city water has so many chemicals in them at different times especially in the spring when it rains alot.

I saw your post and look forward to your future posts. On the question of frequency of testing, the EPA recommends that private wells be tested at least once a year. I don't have the EPA link handy, but it goes more into detail and I would be happy to find it and forward it if anyone wants it.
