Us agents know how dependant we are on our cell phones.  I imagine most of us have the maximum time plan available. I have have been with T-Mobile for about five years That means I have spent $4000 to $5000 on them  during that time.  Today I learned how much I meant to them as a customer.

My Motorola phone died today. The warranty expired a month ago.  T-Mobile offered to sell me a new one for $80.00.  If I was a new customer they would sell it to me for $29.00.  Its not like I expect a free phone.  I told them I just want to treated as well as they treat a new customer, and reminded the representive I talked to how much I have spent on their service in recent years.  His response was If I wait eight more months I can get the additional discount.  I told him if I have to wait that long I'll be someone elses customer by then.  If I were to stay with them for another five years I would likely spend another $5000.  But they will let me go for $50.00.

My solution is to charge up my old ugly phone, tell everyone on activerain, and wait out my contract.  If I change one mind about T-Mobile its worth it.  If T-Mobile comes to their senses I may delete this post.

It is so typical once they have the contract they hope you forget the abuse and they will suck up for a few days to get you to stay. Good luck but I'm afraid they are all more of the same.

Ditto, brother, same deal with AT&T. I fired them after they told me that to replace my broken PALM TREO, the cost of the PALM TREO was the store's advertised price PLUS $125. Outrageous. I asked for the store manager. Gave the same spiel. Customer for 7 years. Have 2 childen with AT&T phones that I'm paying for. Average bill is $400 per month. Asked them about termination fee. The response was $175. I replied that I would be pleased to spend $50 to leave them if they didn't value my account. Walked over to the Verizon store and got a great deal on the services and the Motorola Q that I am very happy with.

You are both probably right.  Sometimes having principles is a waste of time.  I'm avoiding any more commitments if I can.  I think prices will be dropping soon.

I have heard the same about all of cell phone companies.  The problem is that you get ticked at T-Mobile and go to AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, or whoever.  Someone else get ticked at one of those companies and go to T-Mobile.  They don't see the drop in customers because they are all just recycling clients.  You would think that one of them would try to accommodate their existing customers by eating the $50.00 in return for loyal long-term customers and continue to acquire new customers from all of the companies that don't.

Tom,  You can't delete your post I will lose my points. ; )  Your blog explains perfectly what it will cost T-Mobile by not treating you fairly.  Good job and I understand if I lose the points.

Sprint is the same way. I get to talk to them every few months when they double me. I'm willing to bet if I had time to looke ever all my bills (which they can't seem to mail me) I would find exactly how many times I overpaid them. I also have tried to replace phones supposedly covered by the warranty only to be offered $150 off a new, the same discount if I were a new customer... Go figure. Anyone want to go into the cell phone business with me?

Tom, I spent an hour and a half at T-Mobile today, consolating accounts, brought my son over from Nextel with a new blackberry curve and my husband from Sprint.

I have worked with all 4 and honestly I get the best service from T-Mobile.

Do you think it is because  I sold the manager a house?

No, in working with Nextel, Sprint, Verizon and AT and T, I get my best service there, before he bought a house from me.

I had the same situation at Nextel on the new phone thing.

It is wrong... they should treat their loyal customers better, but I think that you will find T-Mobile is the best.

I've been with T-Mobile for the past 8 years, back when they were VoiceStream. My biggest gripe is that they never seem to offer the most advanced phones. The best and most reliable phone I've had was the first one I received when I signed up, a Nokia 6000 series. I have the Razor right now, and don't like it. Coverage here is spotty at best. Verizon seems to have the best phones and coverage right now. Customer Service hasn't been wonderful, but they've helped for the most part.

I had T-Mobile for around 10 years, they lost me over a $100 overbilling, now I have Verizon and so far I am happy with them. Actually better coverage than T-Mobile

You got to get over it...T-Mobile by far has the best rates and the best customer service! Coverage is dramatically improving and they are always looking at ways to save customers money. Just like any electronic in America its always 1 year warranty. We as consumers need to take better precaution and either purchase a back up phone from a third party or get phone insurance. Or just do a 1 year contract when upgrading. All in all every company is going to have issues T-Mobile in my opinion has less. Im a consumer just like all of you so just get a GSM unlocked phone and you'll never have this problem again.

T-Mobile has outsourced their email customer care to a company named NCO. NCO's center in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada has been where ALL your emails have been coming from for a long time.

Now they have sent all the emails to the PHILIPPINES! Get ready for your email and webchat customer care to be coming from Filipino people! HAHA. I thought T-Mobile would never go offshore? They do through NCO. You thought your customer care was bad before?!
