Returning Messages

A very wise person once told me I should alway return messages and emails, even if I don'y want to talk to that person.  It seemed like a good idea, so I always have.  But why is it a good idea?  Lets take a look at it, shall we?

In our business, or any business for that matter, our reputation and professionalism will always get tangled into our success.  If a person has a negative impression of you and your name comes up in conversation with others, what do you think he will say about you?  Probably not nice things.

By our always being the good, nice person, always returning calls and emails, and that's not to say that we always have to give people good news, our contacts and clients will know that they can depend on us.  Positive impressions = positive $$$, negative impressions=negative $$$.  No one wants to work with a flake.

What do you think?

Cheers-

Mike

I don't get it...how can you do business if you don't return emails and messages whether you want to or not?  It's part of our job, even if we aren't in the mood to talk to that person that minute....

I couldn't agree with your position more! I train our new agents and I stress that being responsive to all calls and inquiries is the key to great service.

I always try to return emails and messages. BUT, what to do when you've just had three calls and your in the middle of a stressful phone conversation....grab that pen and paper honey!  My worst ability is multi-tasking...I will admit to embarrassing myself of telling someone I will call them back and forget who they were.  AND, I don't know about you, but my cell phone does not log all my incoming phone numbers.  Great post!

I return all messages and emails sent to me.  I don't respond to all comments from active rain however.

Chris- It was to my GREAT surprise when I became a Realtor that not all Realtors are on it.  The thing that I find unbelievable is finding a flake who is a Top Producer!...Go Figure...

You must return all of your calls and messages, and we must always answer our phone as well, a missed call could be a missed deal.

I really try to pick up every time.  But when I am with a client, my phone is off.  When it goes back on again the first thing I do is make call backs, EVERYTIME!

I think you should come to Texas and start giving seminars on this topic - I'd pay for some people to go!!

Like your philosophy and 'karma-esque' beliefs behind it - this hits home big time.

Nathan- I love Real Estate but it is MY DREAM to be a Corporate Trainer/Speaker.  But for now, send your people to me in Honolulu and I will talk with them!

Who wants a reputation of not returning messages?  I know I don't.  Great point.
