Even though Idabel's population is only about 7200 people, we are fortunate to have a branch of the Southeastern Oklahoma State University right here. If you are thinking of relocating anywhere within our area, you will want to know about the McCurtain County Campus of SEOSU. Classes are often attended not only by students fresh out of high school but by many adult students.
The Higher Learning Center started out in downtown Idabel pre-1980. Soon plans for a new facility came into being and the E T Dunlap Center for Higher Education was placed into service in 1980. Classes were taught by three different institutions, 2 of which were junior colleges. Carl Albert State College and Eastern Oklahoma State College offered the lower level classes and Southeastern Oklahoma State University offered classes above the level that the state colleges could.
Also East Central University offered a Bachelor of Nursing program and Murray State College offered a Legal Secretary Program. Both programs were conducted through interactive television.
Southeastern Oklahoma State University took over the E T Dunlap Center in 2005 as a branch of its institution and now it is called the McCurtain County Campus of Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
The University continues to cooperate with with the other institutions to provide courses and degree programs to students.
Their website has a lof of useful information online such as handbooks, faculty, and schedules.
