WE DON'T HAVE THAT HERE

Just in case you're wondering about Maui life, but you've never been to Hawaii, here's some local info.  Let me tell you some of the things we DON'T have over here on the island of Maui:

NO Billboards - Maui County has an ordinance prohibiting billboards and large signs.

NO Snakes- We actually have 1 species of underground blind snake, but that doesn't count.  No poisonous snakes, no skunks, no raccoons, no foxes, no coyotes, no wolves, no bears, no cougars, no seagulls.  We do have mongoose, deer, wild and feral pigs.  You can go hiking in the jungle and not fear for you life.

NO Rabies - Good news for pet owners.  You can more easily transport your pets here from other countries without rabies, like New Zealand, with no quarantine needed.

NO 6-Lane Highways - I don't think we even have an underpass/overpass yet, but there might be one under construction as I speak.

NO Strip Clubs - We do have Hostess Bars in Wailuku though.  And I think they're opening a Hooters in Lahaina.. does that count?  Now if you want so see scantily clad hot young things, just go to the beaches on the north shore - it's like going to the set of Baywatch... haha.  And if you want to see naked people on the beach... you can call your favorite Realtor to see which beach that would be.

NO Gambling - No racetracks, no BINGO, no lottery, no casinos.  We do have illegal cock fights though, if you know where to find them.

NO Trailer Parks - That's right - no trailer parks.

NO Military/Naval Bases- Oahu has numerous military and naval bases and personnel.

NO Snow and Ice- OK there's plenty of ice in the tropical drinks, and we do get snow on the top of Maui occasionally.

YES we DO have plenty of: good weather; beaches; shopping and entertainment; arts and culture; friendly people, and a lot of ALOHA.

If you're thinking of moving to Maui, let an experienced local Realtor help you with your relocation package.  Contact me and tell me about your needs, I'm listening and I care.

Lisa - It appeals to a lot of people.  There are some that can't live without all of the above, but that's their choice.  I am spoiled, and very lucky.

Kathleen - good one!  Get on a plane and get over here now!

Renee - It really hits me when we travel to a place with billboards - they are so distracting!

( My friend )

Now I can't let anyone call Pearl Harbor a post and not a

Naval Base, seeing that I am a Navy Vet.  I should have

put this here the first time. ( lol ) added 3 March 2008

And the fact Pearl has one of the very best Battleship's as a Memorial

the USS Missouri also known as the " Mighty Mo " there.

Those little ol Mongoose's would take any snake that would even think of being there, thats for sure.

I was on Oahu on R and R one time, and out driving around and seen one them little ol Mongoose

so not knowing what it was I stoped and was going to catch it. Will I'll tell ya that thing

stood right up as to say make my day. lol

I enjoyed your post very much.

Have a good one

Dale

Georgina - I adore that list!!! Think of it, NO SNAKES - the one thing that really scares me! No rabies, so pets don't need to have that poison injected into them to protect them! No trailer parks! Is it really called heaven??????????

Dale - I changed the wording just for you - let me know if that's better.

Those mongooses (?) are very fast, and bold!

BJ - It's really a slice of heaven.

You really have done a great job with your blog, Georgina.  When I visit new places, I like to check in to my hotel and disappear from the beaten path.  No tourist attractions for me-I like to go where the locals go.  From reading your blog, I already have a few ideas of places I'd like to see.

The "light bulb" has gone off for localism ideas, too.

Thanks!

Amanda - have you already booked a place?  If you like to get away from the resorts - check out Paia - they have reopened the Paia Inn, and I will try to blog it today, but in the meantime they have a website.... paiainn.com

Yes, I am booked at the Hyatt.  I won a trip to Maui with one of my local builders so quite a bit of the trip is arranged by corporate.  Hubby and I look forward to spending some time exploring though and I can't wait to eat at Mama's after reading your review!

Amanda - nice perk!  Mama's is a must, especially since you'll be saving enough to pay for it now... haha.  Maybe you could even go twice...once for lunch and once for dinner.

I hope you will call me when you're coming to Paia, and I'll show you around, all 3 blocks of it.
