If you have ever been to Mardi Gras, then you know what an exciting time it is. If you have yet to experience it, you must put it on your "to do" list. Mardi Gras in Baton Rouge usually consist of about seven parades. This is where everyone gets together, lines up on the streets and screams, "Throw me something, mister!". Beads, cups, and candy fly through the air during Mardi Gras. It seems to be a tradition to see who can catch the most beads. It's good times had by all. So, be sure to get your king cake and load up on beads during the Mardi Gras season.

Okay, so Baton Rouge will give you a little break in June and let you head on down to Gonzales for the Swamp Pop Music Festival in July. Gonzales is twenty minutes from Baton rouge, but well worth the drive. The Swamp Pop Festival is a awesome festival that includes music such as; cajun, blues and zydeco. It's actually considered a "professional" festival. The festival features a number of nationally known performers. This festival was actually formed to raise funds for people with cystic fibrosis. So, be sure to come out and give your support and enjoy a variety of good music and great food.
Of course, what would July be like without a Star Spangled Banner Celebration. This celebration kicks off downtown 3:00pm at the Riverfront Stage between the USS KIDD Memorial and Red Stick Plaza. Every 4th of July over one hundred volunteers join to host Baton Rouge's largest Independence Day festivities. This festival features live music through out the afternoon by many popular bands. It's fun to walk around and look at the animals and also see everyone dressed up in their Halloween costume. Boo at the Zoo is a good, safe way to do Halloween. If you are looking for something a little bit more scarier, you will want to visit the 13th Gate. The 13th gate is actually a haunted house that is known for scaring the hoo haa out of people. Don't go unless you are ready to be scared. If you are looking for something a little more mellow for Halloween, Baton Rouge offers a Cajun Country Corn Maze. You can imagine how fun that is.
