David Lelak, an Atlanta Home Inspector located the following issue on a local Canton, Ga home inspection that he was doing. Most people don't even begin to realize the fire hazards that a dryer vent can cause. This particular case is really dangerous and you also have to wonder if the homeowners didn't notice dryer lint on the floor or if maybe it feed into a place that it wasn't noticable.

Ok even I know that is not right.  Aren't the dryer vents supposed to vent directly outside?  I mean all the homes that I have seen do that.  Oh my!  By the way David you are getting much better on speaking on camera.  I really enjoyed this it was very informative.  I honestly didn't know they made vent hoses that long.

ROTF, LMTO,  Suprise, Suprise, Suprise.  Yes, most dryers do vent outside, and we've never seen one that long either.  Bonnie shoves that little flip camera in my hand everytime I turn around.  I finally got to where I didn't sound like I was eating chips while talking.  But let me get into a tight situation and I may go back to eating who knows. :-)

Thanks, practice, practice, practice.   I have several more we are working on getting uploaded.   Bonnie's been working on a seperate blog that is suppose to help get my name higher in the rankings, but she just started getting it set up.  We will have to see how it goes.

The one that Bonnie is setting up is suppose to do a lot of the "back work" behind the scenes, she said something about sociables and bookmarking and posting to different groups with one button.  I'm not sure what she is talking about, but she is thank goodness.  She also said something about commenting on some of the post on here and doing trackbacks, "who knows, trackbacks - that's what I do when I've lost the trail of the deer" lol

Good thing she knows what she is talking about then David or you would be searching all night for where the deer went on here, lol.

I didn't have the sound on so I'm probably reiterating what you might have said.

1st: it's one of those cheesy plastic ducts

2nd: the duct has broken apart and the line is currently blowing right on the combustion gases for the water heater.

3rd: even if it was connected, the water heater flue needs a minimum 1-inch clearance to combustibles

WOW!  They're very lucky their house didn't go up in flames.

At least they had a smoke detector nearby  :-)

Thanks for sharing.

Linda, all I can say to all of the above is, I try to keep him on track.  Don't have him thinking there is deer on here, Between him and our 15 year old, If their looking for deer, I'll never get the computer.

Very good video. How many videos have you done and what kind of response are you getting from them?

I've just started using videos, we've probably only done 10 or so,  We're listed on youtube.com under ihihomeinspections.  We haven't really done enough to start tracking.  Our mentor has and he is listed higher in the search engines because of it.

Just about the same comment I left on Charles' blog about all the amazing things we run across and get a chuckle out of due to the lack of common sense some of these repairs show.  Nice video David!

Glen, Thaks for stopping by and commenting, all I can say is I'm sure glad this isn't in my home.  But I probably wouldn't have even thought about it before I was a home inspector and I'm sure these folks didn't either.  There is so many times we learn things only after being taught.

Keith & Robin, Thanks for the comment and for stopping by.  I've really gotten to where I like this little flip video and it is so easy to use even "a Home Inspector" can use it.

Have a great day!

The video is a really nice touch and it really shows you what is going on verses what you write on paper with a still picture! I would love to see more inspectors do that here for more complex issues where a video is a heck of a lot better than a still photo ever could be.
