Today's Miami Herald has an article stating that State lawmakers are meeting soon and will likely cut $350M from funding for schools.   To me, education is one of the most important things so this doesn't sit well with me.  School funding comes from sales tax and the economy has not been so hot. 

But this begs the question:  how do they budget?  Are there projections solely on a robust economy?  Do they have back-up plans or reserves?

Additionally, here's a piece from the article that concerns me, "For the budget year that begins July 1, the governor has proposed a budget that adds $1 billion to schools by relying on higher property tax revenues and new state lottery games."

How exactly does Gov. Crist expect to obtain higher property tax revenues?  I am generally positive and expect the housing market to get better, but this quickly?  Or does he think Amendment 1 will jump start everything?  Florida's school system is not that good and this will only deliver another blow to it.
