TMobile Wing

Let me preface this by telling you I am not a totally techie person.

I like things simple and easy to understand. I need the sounds on my phone to be loud enough to hear.

However, I also need total Internet Access at all times. No I am not addicted to the Internet. I am a businesswoman who believes in returning her phone calls and emails as soon as possible.

I also need access to the Internet for different programs I use daily to conduct my Real Estate business.

With this in mind, I started searching all the different Smartphones and pda's out there. For me, I wanted an all in one solution that would efficiently handle all my tasks.

I had narrowed it down to the Blackberry Curve  Blackberry Curve and the TMobile Wing.

The main differences, for me, were:

  1. The keyboard was way too tiny for my fingers.
  2. The blackberry did not have the same operating system as the Wing which comes with Windows Mobile 6
  3. The Internet access was different from the way I was accustomed.

I searched online and went to a TMobile superstore. It appeared that they seemed to "push" the Blackberry. I have read many rave reviews about the Blackberry but as stated above, I had my own personal reasons for choosing the Wing.

What are the specs?

  • quad-band GSM/EDGE support
  • 802.11g Wi-Fi
  • 2.8″ touch screen display
  • slide-out, 40-key QWERTY keyboard
  • Windows Mobile 6 Professional operating system
  • Internet Explorer,
  • Microsoft Office Mobile with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint,
  • and support for AOL, Yahoo, Windows Live and ICQ Instant messaging
  • Can connect to Internet email....my most important requirement!
  • Considered large, but great size for me!
  • And last but not least, the ability to write with a stylus little notes, like to do lists.
  • Voice recording does everything and also saves as a note. This is a great tool for someone with a poor memory!
  • I can now get my bpos while I am out on the road which will pay for this very quickly

Also, the total Internet access with TMobile is only $19.99!

I am very happy with my choice. I was originally looking at the IPhone cause it was pretty.

No, I am not typing this from my Wing, but I could, if I had the time. It does everything my laptop does and more!

Now I need to buy an sdmicro card for more memory

I absolutely love it and I am still figuring out the video and song download features!

Karen:  Now this is information that I can really use.  BTW, you sound like a techie, so don't sell yourself short.  I am one who has not heard of the wing but glad to have a first-hand evaluation from someone who tells it straight.

Karen...Hope you get much more out of it than I do my Treo 700.  I've had it for two years now and basically use it for calls, contacts, and calendar.  Hardly worth the price I paid but it's my own fault.

Have fun!

Karen,  I just was in T-Mobile for 1 !/2 hours consoladating accounts. Four kids on blackberrys the curve and my husband a cheapo.

I use Nextel Blackberry because I have been with them because my minutes cost 128.00 unlimited. But, they just released a program for 99.00 for T-Mobile for 99.00 unlimited so I might be changing as my blackberry doesn't do photos and the curve does.

Donna! I sound like a techie?  Oh oh! I used to be a techie, at one time, but I have not kept up with all the changes and things have certainly changed. Now, as an agent, I just want things simple and helpful!

Kathleen, I have heard so many people say they do not use all the features of their pdas/smartphones. I am trying not to do this. I can now record my shopping lists!!! And they save automatically. This is a great boon for someone with a poor memory. If I am out, I can record or handwrite little notes to myself. The biggest problem was my beeper going off constantly at art class the other night. They were ready to throw me out!

Missy, I definitely wanted a camera and that swayed my choice. You really should check out the Wing since you are already a member of Tmobile.

Thaniks Karen - I would look at those options but our MLS only supports certain phones and therefore I have owned the Palm phones for several years and currently have a Palm 700p which does everything but make coffee!  It opens lock boxes, tracks showings, allows me to report how my showings on homes went, and much, much more.  It is so easy to send text messages on that I have to be careful and not overdo it!  Good luck to you.

Karen, I have so been needing this. I never considered the Blackberry for the very reasons you mentioned. The keys are way too small for my comfort. I am going to go search this out and I am soooooo appreciative of the information you have given us here. I hope things are going well for you. It sounds as if they are! I'll let you know what I end up with...Later in the rain~Deb

This is a great review of two good products.  I use the TREO, and I'm very happy with it.

George, Deb, Margaret and Ginger

Sorry about the late response, but this is the first alert I received!!!

To answer, My MLS does support the wing, however it charges a separate fee to use. Right now I have alerts set up for different buyers and I receive it as an email. If I choose, I can click into the property and get a full view of the MLS sheet. This works for me and does not cost me any more. However, if you wanted to be driving around and searching through MLS at the same time (something more prone to a hot market), you would need to check with your MLS. RI MLS does support it, so I would imagine most MLS's do also.

I have had this for three weeks and do not know how I managed to exist without it. My only problem is it will not let me log into Active Rain, but I can blog on my personal sites.

Karen, I wonder why you can't get into Active Rain. Did you ask the AR Guys?

Not yet, but I usually have one computer logged in at all times. I am going to try logging out and then try the wing. I know others get on here with Blackberries and the Wing has an excellent internet access. I will try that later tonite and report back:)

Ginger,

Sorry about that, had to watch Dancing with the Stars:) The quality is fine, and I am somewhat hard of hearing, but I usually have no problem. There are also other things, like TV and video, that can be done and it has a great camera, with video, but I am still learning. As I said I am a slow learner. Just figured out how to change a ringtone to a song I liked. That took hours of searching, since I didn't want to pay for it:)

The biggest thing is getting used to such a small screen and scrolling through websites. Google and many others have mobile sized websites and you can still customize quite a bit.  I was originally carrying a Sony Vaio 13inch laptop around with me and the Wing is much more comfortable and easier to carry. Plus, I can take it with me everywhere.

Hi Karen, I am so with you on DWTS... It's the only non news show that I watch....Now I have my hubby hooked, so he won't interrupt me me when I am watching, LOL!.. What did you think of the talent this year?

I am curious how Priscilla will do tonight... She doesn't seem to have her groove on... I've only watched the show for 2 seasons, but my record is 2-0 for picking the winner!

About the Tmobile. Did you check if we get an NAR discount?    I use Sprint now and they have great discounts...

What is your monthly charge? Thanks!

Ginger, I am getting ready to watch. My husband enjoys it also..We live vicariously:)  I have been pretty good about picking except twice, when the best dancer did not win!!! I have to keep reminding myself that people with more fans will get more votes, irregardless of their ability. I have to give Priscilla credit, not sure how old she is, hubby thinks she is young... We shall see

No I have not checked the NAR discount...19.99 for full email and Internet access seemed pretty cheap, but I will check it out anyway, thanks for the heads up.

I just purchased this a couple weeks ago for the same reasons. I'd refused to give up my basic, $49 flip phone/only phone, because those others just didn't seem efficient for me or easy to use. And yeah, the iphone was pretty and my young friends go on & on about it, but it's MAC & I don't use MAC. I love how the WING is more like a mini computer.

Hi Mara,

Yes, I agree, it's almost like having a laptop with you. After you get used to the tinyness of it! It has already paid for itself in BPO's that I would not otherwise have gotten in time! I don't use Mac either so guess this was the choice for us!

This is very helpful information. We use T-mobile and are likely in the market for an upgrade in a little while. So thanks for sharing.

Bob and Carolyn,

I have had this for a couple of months now and the only drawback is on "longer" messages, I have to back out and go back in. Also, if I save the message, it saves in a different spot that i cannot access from my computer. I finally broke down and bought a wireless card for my laptop, but I bought that from TMobile as well. All I need now is a wireless printer and I should be fully mobile!!
