Four Seasons in Anne Arundel County, Maryland

By
Real Estate Agent with Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc.

Included in Your Online Relocation Package for Anne Arundel County, Maryland - Home of Fort George G. Meade, NSA, Northrop Grumman, BWI, and the U.S. Naval Academy.

As we moved to different parts of the country, compliments of the U.S. Navy, I was very excited to experience life in a new places.  But I really missed winter, as I knew it, and I was glad to settle back in Maryland when Larry was stationed at the U.S. Naval Academy as an instructor.  I guess each of us grows accustomed to the seasons, whereever we live, and relocation may require some adjustments to our expectations and maybe even our wardrobe.

You will have four seasons, here in Anne Arundel County, Maryland - 'Just enough to enjoy them all.   By the time you tire of any season, the next one is beginning.

Woman and child

SUMMER months of June, July and August are hot and humid in this area, so air conditioning in your home and car will be a necessity.  Your lawn and garden will require frequent watering and sometimes the water table gets low enough in August that outdoor water usage may be restricted.  Summer is a season for sailing, golf, the swimming pool, sight-seeing, crab feasts and picnics.  It's very laid-back here, in summer, and many employers allow more casual attire.

Fall Leaves

FALL months of September, October and November are absolutely gorgeous, with the changing leaves, mums in bloom, and moderate temperatures.  In fact, Fall may be my favorite time of year, in this area.  Somehow, the weather seems to know when Labor Day has come and gone, because the temperature seems to drop right on schedule as school starts, and the foliage colors usually peak in mid-October.  By November, it gets pretty chilly and the last of the leaves are falling.  If you have trees in your yard, be prepared to do some raking and bagging.

Snowball

WINTER weather arrives by December and runs through February... even into March for a week or two, some years.  Winter can be marked by snow and ice, as well as temperatures well below freezing, although 2007-2008 has been moderate, with very little snow.  We get snow around here just often enough that road crews are well-prepared and know what to do, and school systems have several snow-days built into their calendars.  When we do have snow, it will be your responsibility to shovel the walk in front of your own home.

Azaleas in bloom

SPRING weather blows in with the March wind, and April showers bring May flowers, including daffodils, azaleas, tulips and cherry blossoms.  Sping is a beautiful season in this area, that folks are ready to enjoy after three months of cold.  Kids are riding their bikes and trying out for baseball, golf clubs are being dusted off and put to use, boats are moving on the water, and everyone seems to be working in their yards to prepare them for summer.

Hi Margaret,

Lovely post, the fall must be absolutely spectacular. I can see why you could miss those seasons. We don't have your wonderful seasons, but today I spent the afternoon biking at the beach, it was gorgeous. You could see across the ocean Catalina Island and the other way the snow capped mountains in the background.

Brian, I am with you!  Winter be gone!

Cynthia, LOL.  Well, that's the idea of these relo posts, right?

Jesse & Kathy - Thanks for the compliment on my new "signature" - I like it shorter, but it probably needs some work for better SEO.  lol.  As to all that winter, you can keep it!

Jan - You're too funny!  But thanks.

Julie - Your approval means a lot to me.

Lynda - That sounds wonderful... but I did learn that I appreciate it more after enduring 3 months of winter!

Just 1 question?  When is it going to warm up?!?!  Burrrr.

I always said... the job of a weather forecaster is the BEST job in the world.  What other job can you be wrong 75% of the time and NOT get fired?!

Karen, I've had a few other models to follow here, so why not!  In this area, the seasons do pretty much change like clockwork every three months.

James, Didn't we just have 70 degrees a couple weeks ago?  Where did this frigid air come from?
