Dyersburg picked as one of the top cities to retire to!

This morning I was reading the local newspaper  and saw that Dyersburg was listed as one of the top cities to retire to.

Several other news sources picked up this information and reported it. Among them were Fox Business News,Forbes.com and the senior Web Site Grand Times.

This story was based on information derived from The Council for Community and Economic Research. They did a study across the country and selected Dyersburg as one of (6) best cities in the southeast to retire to if on a fixed income. I have been writing about the affordablity of homes and property here in the Dyersburg area. In addition to that however, the study revealed the cost of living is lower here than in other areas.

Here is the article written by Kathryn Tuggle at Fox Business News.

A couple of years ago, I wrote an article on my Dyersburg Real estate Blog about Dyersburg being selected as one of the top(tied for 20th) micropolitan cities in the country. A micropolitan is a small city that is growing and attracting industry and jobs to the area. The article I referenced then can be read here

Dyersburg is a beautiful small city with lots of industry, jobs, shopping and reasonable priced housing, healthcare, utilities, etc. That is the reason we continue to be busy here at Carousel Realty relocating people from out of state.

Mike:  Congratulations to Dyersburg.  This should be a boost to your market there.   What's your biggest industry?

Jan,

Thanks for the comment. Our city is doing pretty well and is on a growth spurt. We have several industries but still a big farming community. We just got Briggs & Stratton and NSK steering columns. We have a couple of rubber plants. Goodyear is about 22 miles away. There are several great plants just across the river that employ a lot of people and many live in Dyersburg.

Chris,

Dyersburg is positioned to become a fast growing city because of our location next to I155, we are close to I40, I69 is planned to come right thru Dyer County, and the new riverport near Tiptonville is under construction.

I'm really surprised, I have lived in Milan and Jackson and who would have thought.  I have been in the Nashville are since the early 1980's we still have family in Jackson, and when there we always like to golf at the Dyersburg Country Club.  It's a great little course and not that easy.

Mike, Wow!  That is exciting that Dyersburg is one of the top cities to retire to.  I know you have been saying that for years.  Hey!  I will be seeing you pretty soon for that infamous class.  Too bad everyone can't fit in the class!
