Marketing To The General Public, Should I?

I know a title person is not supposed to market to the general public, or are they? Ed Rybczynski has been advocating that title companies begin to market to the consumer and so I'm giving it a try.

The first thing I did was create a blog on blogger. My intention was to create an easy place for me to post my marketing material and statistics.

The thought was that agents could find the information and use it to link to or just reference any way they would like to.

Next, I began to get familiar with Active Rain and learned tons of great advice, like how to use google reader to keep up on all my favorite local and industry wide blog postings. But the most important thing I learned about blogging from Active Rain, is DO IT NOW.

Many of the Google tools have helped me along the way to see if I'm making any progress. Google Analytics is terrific and I have been using it to figure out how people are finding my blog, and in some cases who is finding my blog. (my competition is watching)

My most recent adventure came at the hands of a blog topic regarding the conforming loan limits and how they are being created for Santa Barbara. I had a local on-line newspaper called NoozHawk put up a feature article and then they received a follow up from Congresswoman Lois Capps.

Pretty cool stuff! Well it gets better, the publisher of this on-line paper and I have created a little rapport and he wants to start using some of my monthly statistical information on his site.

I guess, that means I'm marketing to the general public. Stay tuned for what I hope are additional success stories.

Great Job Greg!

Way to think outside the box! I encourage anyone in the industry to step outside the "normal" chains of marketing and advertsing and to go after all mediums.

You are going to be know as a leader in your community and should receive alot of business from it.

Good Luck!!

Greg - I'd be interested in how your business level changes and is impacted by your innovative approach.  I always advocate someone taking hold of the reins and driving their business vs. the alternative (wait and see what scraps I get from others)!

Good Luck-

Greg - I figure, why not?  Why should the public always leave it to the agents and lenders to pick a Title Company for them.  Plus, it's a great way to help educate the General Public understand that part of the transaction.

Greg,

Nice post! But why haven't the title underwriters ever advertised to the public directly...because they like CONTROLLED BUSINESS!!! Thanks,   Fran

Ken, I was talking to a co worker today and told them if I could get just a few transactions, that would be good enough. I hope your prediction is right. Thanks for commenting.

Thanks Nathan, I couldn't have said it any better. Who likes leftovers.;o)

Jason, I'm enjoying your blog, and appreciate you giving me props.

Fran, controlled business is big business, I actually think it's the lazy mans way to title orders. I, like you prefer TO EARN IT!
