Are you in one of the MOST miserable cities?

By miserable cities, they don't just mean the real estate market. They have taken several variables into account and rated cities based on these. The factors they looked at was the weather, pollution, commute times, income tax, unemployment, and crime rates.

America's Most Miserable Cities are:

Detroit, Michigan

Stockton, California

Flint, Michigan

New York, New York

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Chicago, Illinois

Los Angeles, California

Modesto, California

Charlotte, North Carolina

Providence, Rhode Island

I was surprised by Providence, Rhode Island. I thought that area was supposed to be a good place to live. Apparently, only New York beats them on income tax! I wasn't surprised by Michigan cities being at the top. Michigan has seen some tough times.

New Bern North Carolina is place to be right now!  I am surprised by few of the cities in that list.

I saw this list on Yahoo the other day and I was also surprised by Providence, Rhode Island. I'm also glad that Columbia, SC did not make the list.

Well, 1 out of 9 homes in town are either bank owned or going into foreclosure and that rate is escalating. But on the upside, it was 76 today, clear blue sky, my kids, dog and girlfriend love me and I can still afford gas for my car. Life is good. I know some people who are happy as clams in Flint, MI - other folks can be miserable in Paradise. Go figure.

Hmmm, three California cities...and seven in the midwest and on the east coast.  Interesting.

I am sorry. I am a New Yorker and I love New York. Perhaps the weather is harsh; traffic is horrible (I once stuck in traffic for three hours from Brooklyn to Manhattan), air is polluted and security is still a problem in some neighborhoods. Besides, traffic police officers walk down the streets in pairs to issue parking tickets. It's not unusual to get three or more tickets in a week, if you are not careful - and I must confess that I am not that careful sometimes :-(

But think about it. The cities on the Most Miserable List are also metro areas. So many people have chosen (at least I really want to think so) to live there. There must be something beyond weather, traffice, pollution, etc., that keep them there. For me, I think it is the rich cultural mix. You have to be here to experience it.

In whose eyes are these the most miserable cities? True those may not be the places to be for some, but for many those places are home and they want to be there.

Sonja: I agree. There were a few surprises.

JL: I am glad Savannah wasn't there. But I wonder who they get to do these crazy things!

Gene: I am glad life is good. It is true. My mother has family in Michigan that are considering a move. There is no perfect place, unfortunately.

Norma: I thought it was too!

Steve: LOL....well, that's a good thing. As the saying goes, one man's junk is another man's treasure. I don't know how they decide this stuff.

Tina: I'll cross my fingers and toes for you....lol

Jim: I have no idea. I am guessing the guy who wrote it? I couldn't agree more.
