It's trite but true.  March comes in like a lion but out like a lamb.  (Read more about the weather in D.C. and Northern Virginia).

While you are enjoying the transition from Winter to Spring, here are some upcoming events in Northern Virginia that you might enjoy during the month of March:

St. Patrick's Day in Alexandria

Everyone loves a good parade, right?  Hot of the heels of the successful George Washington's Birthday Parade, Old Town Alexandria hosts a St. Patrick's Day Parade & Celebration on Saturday, March 1st.  Why March 1st when St. Patrick's Day isn't until the 17th?  I don't know for sure, but to participate, head down to Old Town between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and be sure to wear your green.  You might head to Murphy's on King Street or Pat Troy's Ireland's Own restaurant for lunch afterwards.

Mount Vernon

History buff?  Or just enjoyed the movie National Treasure 2 with Nicholas Cage... Visit historic Mount Vernon, George Washington's home during March and take the National Treasure Tour.  Scenes from the movie were filmed onsite.  The tour costs just $2 in addition to the regular admission to the Mount Vernon Estate.  Go to www.mtvernon.org for more details.

Homebuyer Seminar

DON'T MISS EVENT OF MARCH: Are you interested in buying a home in Northern Virginia or D.C.  Not sure where to start?  Want to learn about the market, the process, available properties, mortgages, and more?  Come to a free homebuyer seminar sponsored by Brian Block of RE/MAX Allegiance, Ellen Wilson of Bank of America, and Loretta Colom of The Settlement Group.  Saturday March 8th from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Annandale, VA

Click here for more details and to RSVP.

Children's Book Fair

On March 22nd, pack up the kiddies and take a trip to The Lyceum in Old Town Alexandria for the Children's Book Fair.  Free admission and activities from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  More details at www.AlexandriaHistory.org.

Washington Nationals Baseball

Cross the Potomac River and enjoy the Washington Nationals home opener at the newly constructed Nationals Park as the Nationals take on the Atlanta Braves at 8:05 p.m. on March 30th

BARBARA JO:  Mount Vernon just completed a stunning renovation and addition of a multi-million dollar museum on the grounds of the estate.  It's a must-see when you're in town.
