Now that you were invited, or found and signed up on Active Rain, here are the "STEP-by-STEP" instructions on how to set-up your Profile. This is the First Step in maximizing the value and benefits of your FREE membership here!

STEP 1 - BEFORE YOU BEGIN:

You'll always want to be sure to "LOGIN" to Active Rain before you do anything. If it's been a while since you've been here, you may have forgotten your password. If so, here's what to do:

1. Click "Login" at the top right of your monitor. If it says LOGOUT, then you are already logged in.

2. If you have forgotten your password or login, just click on the link "Forgot Your Password" and the screen below appears:

3. Enter your user name or email address, then click on "Email Me" and your password will be sent to you.

STEP 2 - SETTING UP or EDITING YOUR PROFILE PAGE:

1. Once logged in, from any screen in Active Rain, begin by clicking on the "MY HOME" link at the top of your screen.

2. On the left side of your screen, you will see the options below available: Select the "EDIT" link next to "My Profile" and you will be directed to your Profile Page.

3. Now you are ready to SETUP / EDIT / MODIFY your Profile page on Active Rain, the following screen appears:

4. Fill out the information as demonstrated below:

Just a couple of tips:

1. Don't try to setup or have multiple profiles on Active Rain. One is all you need.

2. If you want your name and company to appear when you comment on other members posts, add it to your last name field: ( ie: Andersohn - The Escrow Guy )

3. Use the "Description Box" as your One-Liner "VALUE-STATEMENT." In other words, if you were in a room full of your competitors, why would someone choose you as their Industry Professional.

4. Remember: You can always come back and edit, change, and modify any section of your "profile page" including if you move, change companies, or re-locate etc.

STEP 3 - UPLOADING YOUR PHOTO:

1. This is a "very important" part of your Profile. You want your clients and visitors to know it's you!

2. Click on the "Upload Picture" link under the Shadow Face on your profile page.

3. Using the "Browse Box", you can search your computer for your favorite photo of yourself. Once you select your photo for upload, simply click on the "Upload Photo" box. Don't forget to click on "Save Profile" when you are done.

(TIP: Use a picture of YOU. Don't use a "Scenery" or "Graphic" for your photo, your Profile is about YOU! There are many reasons for NOT using other pictures in place of YOUR PHOTO.)

PART ONE OF YOUR PROFILE IS NOW COMPLETED!
FOR THIS YOU SHALL BE AWARDED ACTIVE RAIN POINTS WHICH UNFORTUNATELY CANNOT BE EXCHANGED FOR GIFTS AND PRIZES LATER, BUT THEY WILL HELP YOU MOVE UP THE LIST AS THE "FEATURED PROFESSIONAL" IN YOUR AREA.

Here are just a few samples of what other members have done with their "Profile Pages" on Active Rain:

Karen George Bryant Tutas Sarah Cooper Colleen Kulikowski Kristal Kraft Laurie Manny Lenn Harley Renee Burrows Chris Elizabeth Griffith Craig Schiller Mariana Wagner Candace Robinson Rick & Ines Jeff Dowler Thesa Chambers Ann Cummings Nick M Midori Miller Maureen Henry Jeff Turner

Now you are ready to begin the Second part of setting up your profile page. This is where the fun really begins. You are only limited to your own creativity, and there are many members here including myself, that can even help you with that!

Go to the next post titled: "How To Complete Your Active Rain Profile - Part II" which will cover the "About Us", the "Areas of Expertise", and the "Testimonial" sections of your Profile.

As simple as it may seem, I did not do this:  add it to your last name field: ( ie: Andersohn - The Escrow Guy ).  Thanks for the tip!

Great info. Brad!  I have shared it with agents new to A|R.  BTW, how do you get the screen to "snapshot" so you can post it and out arrows on it as you did in your blog?

Tina - I use the Print Scr/Sys Rq button on the computer keyboard to capture the screen, then I go into Paint Shop Pro and do my editing.  You can use other programs out there too.  Adobe Photoshop is the best but too complicated and time consuming for me.  You can also use online editors like picnik.com which is free for 90 days, and then some of the options have to be subscribed to.  I use both.  Hope that helps...   :-)

Beth - only you have the option to edit your own comments, and delete comments from your posts.  Other members can't see the same options that you see.  This allows you to delete unwanted or spam comments, and edit your own comments when you catch typos or want to change something within your comment.  There is also a "report as spam" link you can use if needed.  :-)

Jeff - just click browse, select a new image or photo, select open, and then save.  As long as the new photo or image isn't too large of file or in the wrong format, it will replace the old photo. Don't forget to save your profile when you're done.  Let me know if you still need help with it. be happy to walk you through it if you need. :-)

Pretty cool site. I have a question though, when I signed up and activated I guess I somehow signed up for the wrong occupation title. How do I change it. I can't seem to find it in the edit profile section. Thanks!!

Scott
9:21am • #55

Scott - first off, you'll need to be logged into the network to do anything. I see by your comment not being linked that you are not logged in. To change your occupation, just login, click on edit next to your profile link, and make the change. If you are referring to the "type" ie: Real Estate Agent, Lender etc. we'll have to change that for you. Send me an email if you'd like that portion of your profile changed or you can contact AR by clicking on the link at the bottom of every page in the right hand corner. Hope that helps answer your question. :-)

Hi Brad,

I miss Caliornia, I used to live in Vista about 18 years ago, when it wasn't too conjested.  I've also lived in Oregon, Washington, Mississippi, Florida, New York, Michigan and now in Atlantic Canada. In the past 3-4 months I've learned many new internet techniques, especially HTML coding, which I use in my Prudential Website.  But I feel like I haven't learned enough.

My question is; how do I create a move appealing ActiveRain webpage, with each side having more of my information on other blog sites or where I'm connected or even more visually appealing. (ex: your "Golden Gate Bridge" or where I'm currently living "Saint John panorama"??

Could you please direct me in the right direction.  THANKS!!!

Ann-Marie - You can use the ActiveRain Customizer to create a Blog that looks and feels the way you want it. It will not effect your Profile page, only your Blog pages.  If you want a video tutorial of how to do that, just click on my name at the bottom, you'll find a link on my profile page under "Video Tutorials".  Let me know if you need any help after that. Jamey - well since you are on my Blog post, I guess I can be anyone? lol~  You can point to any website you'd like from your profile page. Just go to the edit function on your profile, place in the new url in the website box, then click on the "Save Profile" button or icon. Then view your profile and click on the link to be sure it's working properly.  You may need to refresh your browser so the new link will show instead of the cached one you had previously.  Let me know if that helps if you haven't corrected it already.  :-)

Hey Brad,

I have had a total brain fade. I have a new testimonial I want to add and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to do that. I went to my profile and the existing testimonials, but it doesn't seem to be the right place to do this. What am I missing.

Also...while I have you, one of my posts was featured this week and I got a bunch of points for it. How does that happen? I am very appreciative, of course!

Jamey - first make sure you're logged in, then click on the Add/Remove that is just above the link.  Then click on Edit and change the URL to anything you want.  That's all you need to do. Carol - Go to your profile link and next to it you'll see the edit link. Click on that and it will take you to your profile edit page. If you are still having a problem, let me know and I'll see what I can try to figure out for you.  Sometimes it's just your browser settings or there's a popup blocker somewhere in your system that may be causing it. You mentioned that the "username" would determine where your profile appears or something like that. What does that mean? I looked at others' usernames and could not recognize a pattern of any kind. Is this alphabetical? Please give me an example of how a particular username would make a difference in placement.

You can add your company name to your user name or your tagline if you want to get recognized with it attached to your name. It has no bearing on where your profile will appear, but it will show up on every signature you leave on every comment of every post....as long as you're logged in when you comment.  I put a sample in the post above for you. :-)

Hi Brad.

The tutorial made setting up my profile very easy.  I just noticed that I am still listed as a "loan officer", when I have in fact transitioned to a real estate agent.  I don't see any way to make the change.

Any suggestions?

Brad, how can I center my blog on the page? I must be looking in the wrong places. When I post my article is always far right and down. Most other blogs are centered. Thanks Rich Charlotte NC

2:21pm • #113

Rich, sounds like you have some code or pictures or images that are too large, this will cause your overall Blog to be off-centered.  Find the post with the oversized image, and you've fixed the problem.  :-)

Is there a way for me to transfer my home page name to a different one, or do I need to re-join for a new one? My current one is kithed because that was a screen name I was using at the time, but did not realize that my web page URL would be condemned with that or I would have used something a little more appropriate. Thanks for any help.

I just joined ActiveRain.  When I registered I entered that I was a Realtor.  As I pressed the send button, for some reason I see that it put me as a financial planner (in so many ways, that is funny)  Anyway, how in the heck do I change that.  I have looked everywhere.  Tried to contact ActiveRain, by phone(always busy) and by support email.  Nothing. I don't want to do anything else until I can get this fixed.

Anyone out there with suggestions?

Thanks for the tips.  I am having a problem having my name & company name appear in my signature.  Could it be because I originally signed into AR as a brokerage rather than ab individual?

Let's see what happens when I try it here.

2:41pm • #150

Still only showing the company name (with edit/delete behind it).  Please help!

2:44pm • #151

Ed - you can change your user name on your profile and also edit your settings page, there is no need to rejoin and ceate a new profile.

3:23pm • #152

Mechelle, I'll go ahead and change your category now. We were all out at a conference, sorry I didn't get back to you or get this done sooner!  :-)

3:25pm • #153

Philadelphia Supreme Properties - you need to go to your profile and edit the name and company section.  First click on edit next to profile but only after you make sure you're logged into AR.  Let me know if you still need help. (The edit/delete is suppose to be there)

Jim and Mary - just make sure you are logged into AR, then click on the "My Home" link in the upper right hand corner, then click on "Edit" next to MY PROFILE on the left sidebar of that page.

You can edit your email, phone, fax etc, there.  Let me know if you still get stuck...   :-)

Hi Brad,

I decided to spend Easter weekend doing something fun and productive - had a golf lesson yesterday - very productive - want to be a scratch golfer this year, but I digress -  more importantly in order to be able to fund the golf - have been spending hours reading up on the Active Rain site and learning about bloggging.

As I stumble and tumble my way around the site - I came to realize that when I go to find where I am and who else is in the site (read - 'ahead of me') under Real Estate Profile - I am listed as Real Estate Sales Representative and would prefer to be under the category Real Estate Agent - I have spent 3-4 hours now looking for blogs on how to change it.  While I have learned about so many other things that I didn't even know that I didn't know (a true unconscious incompetent) so it wasn't a waste of time - there doesn't appear to be anything in My Profile to do this.  Can you help please?  Your posts are awesome - thanks so much for 'paying it forward'!

10:38am • #178

Hi Kelley - sounds like "par" for the course... (no pun intended) There is a lot of really great info to learn here on AR.  Rather than point you to the post that reflects how to change your category type, I've gone ahead and just changed it for you. It's an admin feature that only the AR admin staff can change.  Good luck on your golfing endeavor this year, and oh yeah...

Have A Great Easter!

I finally made it back on Active, I got frusterated by the fact that I could not post public blogs until I paid 29.00 bucks a month. As a realtor I seem to be paying a fee for everything. Is this now the only way to bost public blogs (to pay the fee) ? Thanks so much for your help AGAIN!

Hi April - By upgrading to a RainMaker membership, you will be able to post to public, get the SEO, get your own domain name and outside Blog, get your content potentially in front of nearly 2,000,000 visitors each month, and get all the tech support you need from me.  I transaction from your efforts could pay for your upgraded membership for life.  Just my 2 cents.  Here to help if you need me.  :-))
