Many folks; myself included have written about Text Messages and the use of them in business.  In fact my blog buddy, Barbara Duncan; has become quite the 'Texter'.  She sends me Text messages now and again.  Proof that even veteran agents who have been in business over 25 years; can in fact stay up with the times of the modern Real Estate client!

Here is a Excellent example of how Text messages can be useful to the REALTOR and their client....

I have an out of town client.... He is in the midst of a job change and transfer from across country.  His life is in boxes right now - and of course the new job has him doing so travel - how lovely the week before before a cross-country move!

With his computer "somewhere" in a box and now his Internet turned off at his house - he needed a few "hard copies" of information on his new place. He is arriving in the middle of the night - how do I get the key?  Lockbox - great idea - whats the combo?  What is the number of the building manager?   The parking spot #?

He loves the fact that I could send him a couple of Text messages with this info.  He can easily save these messages and not worry about writing them down and losing the piece of paper!

Especially helpful for a quick question; while he is both 3 time zones away and away from his computer in some airport.

Being able to Text clients is a valuable tool that we all need to learn, work on, and of course use appropriately.

Happy Texting!

Excellent description James.  Sounds like a good idea if, and it's a big if, both parties are on the same wavelength.

James, thanks for the link in your blog!  I felt important.  And please don't spread this but I have so few associates who text (too old) that my fingers are getting rusty.  My friend Larry DeGroat gives me a little practice.  I texted him back and spelled things so horribly (I was driving....a bad thing to do and text) that he couldn't tell what I wrote.  You must check him out. He has also started blogging but he'll never catch me!!

James, texting is huge (you know you text a lot when you are missing the paint off many of your keys from doing it too much - that's me :).  I love what you said about " He can easily save these messages and not worry about writing them down and losing the piece of paper!".  My company has a service that provides all potential buyers the ability to learn listing information via text message.  We created this for that exact reason you stated.  Consumers can walk away with information stored on their phone, rather than writing stuff down or grabbing a flyer.  It's fast, convenient and easy to you and your consumers.  Good luck to your friend!!! MOVING IS NOT FUN!!!!!  Thanks for sharing your ideas!

Texting is something I have not had to do in my real estate business.  I do need to get up to speed for the time I will need to be able to.  I need to update my phone and when I do I need to get a model that will make it easy to text message.  Any ideas as to a good phone?  I have Verizon as my carrier.  Once I get one I will need to practice with my grand kids.
