One of the single most painful tasks I've had to deal with over the years is explaining to Realtors how to resize photos. They will run out to listings with their brand new 6 or 7 Mega-Pixel camera and proceed to take 65 pictures, not realizing that the camera is set to take pictures at 6 or 7 Mega-Pixels!
So? What's the big deal you ask? Try this on for size, I'll get a call and ultimately get asked, "Nick, I cannot seem to email my client more than 2 pictures for some reason??? And it takes almost 39 minutes for 4 photos to upload to the MLS?? WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?"
*sigh* As some of you may know, high Mega-Pixel photos can be ENORMOUS in file size. Attempting to email, upload, or use them in publications can be cumbersome and in some cases impossible. Even 2, 3 and 5 MP cameras can create this problem.
I gather my courage and spit out those horrifying words no real estate agent ever wants to hear "I'm thinking you need to resize your photos."
"AHHHHHH!!! You mean I have to use a PC for something other than EMAIL and PRINTING 97 pages of MLS flyers???!?!?!"
Ok, it's not that bad, but the utter silence, gasps, and "uhhhs" that follows has always been quite interesting to sit through. Regardless, I've always worked through the issue and have managed to teach quite a few people at our company of the importance of this dilemma and how critical it is to manage your camera settings, especially with the resolution.
BUT....what if you make that mistake above or maybe you happen to LOVE taking high resolution photos for the 'fantastical' detail they provide? And you just manually resize the photos on your own, with a program or via some other means.
That's great....but can you do it in JUST TWO CLICKS? NO??
Say hello to EzThumbnails
1. Download it here: EzThumbnails
2. Install it, take all default settings, and make sure you check 'Add "Make Thumbnail" shortcut to Windows Explorer on the final wizard screen as shown below
3. Next, simply open up EzThumbnails and immediately click on the SETTINGS TAB (below), notice the max width and max height. I set mine at 640x480, as that resolution is always a very EMAIL and WEBSITE friendly size. Notice the Resize drop down window too. Keep that at 'Shrink to fit' if you want to keep the aspect ratio of the photo when it's resized. THAT'S IT...MAKE NO MORE CHANGES!! Exit the program and you can experiment with other settings later.
4. Now, go find your lovely 65 picture collection of 7 Mega-Pixel photos. RIGHT CLICK any photo or PHOTOS. Yes you can select multiple pictures and do this...it's GREAT. After right clicking the picture(s), simple left click and choose 'Make Thumbnail' as shown below.
5. How EZ was that???? TWO CLICKS, POOF!! Resized photo!!! Keep in mind that if you choose multiple pictures, it can take quite a few minutes to generate all of the thumbnails. But hey, it sure beats using some stinking program that may be painful to use or forces you to resize them all individually.
I hope all of this information was helpful and now maybe that resize issue of yours will BE GONE FOREVER!!! P.S. Don't forget EzThumbnails is FREEEEEEE
P.S.S. Just wanted to clear up that your original photo remains intact, this program CREATES a newly resized picture!
Nick
Very good program, this sure will save time
