Between January 2, 2007 and December 31, 2007, did you sell a Home in Florida (a Home that was your primary residence) and then buy another one in Florida? If so, you qualify for Portability Tax Savings. The deadline for applying ON TIME for Portability is Monday, March 3rd! If you file after that date, state law requires you to file some additional paperwork and pay a $15 late filing fee.
You can file online by clicking here for the Broward County Property Appraiser's Website. If you prefer to file at one of the local Broward County Tax Offices, they are offering extended hours and will be open this weekend at the Main Office and Plantation Office on Saturday, March 1, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Those Office locations are:
MAIN OFFICE, 115 South Andrews Avenue, Room 111, Fort Lauderdale
Plantation Office, 1 North University Drive, Suite 111-A, Plantation, FL
If you moved this year and want to apply for Tax Portability, you can file anytime before March 1, 2009.
