If you can see my photo, you know I love dogs (I'm the Broker, he's the barker)... so don't take this the wrong way. My miniature schnauzer Clyde is a typical, excitable smaller breed dog. If I was to sell my home, I would make sure Clyde was properly crated or better yet, gone when folks came to view the house. There is NOTHING more distracting to a potential buyer than a yappy dog, other than, perhaps, a biting dog. So no matter how much you love your dog, if you want to sell your house, consider doggie daycare! Happy Selling, Keith Berne RE/MAX Equity Group, Broker, Realtor, GRI 503-734-6646

Isn't that the truth. I have opened up the door on snarling dogs only once but that was enough for me. I always knock and then listen, no matter what the showing service says.

Hey Virginia, Once I walked in a vacant listing, not a stick of furniture, and there was a lone dog. He must have been locked in for a while because there were "signs" on the floor. I called the broker who had no idea whose dog it was! Keith

I especially love when they tell you "we will put the dogs away" and you open a door to the laundry room to find them in there! Ha, as if a BUYER was not going to look in ALL of the rooms??

My best dog story was knocking on the door, hearing the dog bark, hearing someone say shut up and waiting for the door to open.  Knock again, door barks, someone says shut up and no one answers the door.  Finally stick my head in, find the dog nicely caged and a parrot fussing at him.  Okay strange but we were glad the dog was caged and wish the bird had been!

I am a dog lover and owner myself. and can truly appreciate all the stories. I would like to add my own parrot story. My grandparents had a paret for over 40+ years. They came home to find people wandering around their house. When they asked for an expaination, the people said they had rang the door bell and someone said "come in", so they did. After that, the parrot was kept in the kithchen!

hehehhe... These responses are hilarious. I've heard numerous stories concerning Parrots and the funny stuff they will say.

Love the two parrot stories.  I knew an older Realtor years ago who had just gotten her license and went to preview a listing.  She was all alone, rang the doorbell, received no answer, was walking through the house and started hearing noises coming from the basement.  She was wary about continuing to the basement, opened the door and said 'hello'.  Someone kept repeating 'I'm a craaaaaazy chicken' - turned out it was a parrot!
