Today's "Harry Homeowner" award goes to:  (I have no idea and I don't really want to know---it is best that we just move on with our lives sometimes).   But, this "repair" took some time and "thought."  I mean, to find enough rocks all the same size must have taken some thought---or at least time.  In the first picture we see the finished product----flashing installed under the shingles so that water would run into the gutter instead of behind it.roof edge

So right off they were fixing something that was wrong to begin with----the shingles didn't hang over the edge of the roof far enough.  It would have been better for eave metal to have been installed prior to installing the shingles.  Doing it afterwards was obviously more than the repair person could handle.  You can see in the next two pictures where small stones have been installed on top of the fascia to keep the flashing tilted so that water runs toward the gutter.stone shims

Flashing an inch wider would have been wide enough to lap on top of the roof sheathing and the cute little stones would not have been necessary.  Perhaps seismic restraints could be added to each stone to keep them in place.

I think Fred Flinstone and Barney Rubble were drinking with MR Slate and thought out this idea of gravity!

Great pictures and good information, funny as crap though!

Charlie,

They ought to be in Italy. You ever see those photos I posted of all the big rocks on the old tile roofs?

Charles, I guess that this repair was done by someone with way too much time on their hands. You have to give them a grade of "C" for being creative though.
