colors
Colors, Colors, Everywhere!
O.K! Here You Go Missy and Teri, who asked me how I do this and those of you who wondered how we did these colors.

There are two ways that you can do the colored fonts. If you just want a real simple change of color in one sentence or two then follow these instructions:

After you draft your post in the Active Rain platform in WYSIWYG ( the plain text editor), choose post to draft. Make sure that everything is how you want your post to look, all the images in the right places and all your spell checks finished. HTML and WYSIWYG are not interchangeable so you must post to draft after you make any changes in either format. Sometimes I have problems with HTML saving the colors if I move back and forth in the editors even after posting so I make sure everything is finished in WYSIWYG first.

Now go back to your post and click edit. Your new draft post come up in edit mode. Make sure to click on the HTML tab as shown below.

active rain html

Now you go to to the sentences you want to change colors. Right before the sentence starts you will need to add your color HTML code.
For Red you are going to use the following code:

textSee my update below, I have to put the code in the comment section, sorry about that.

Your sentence is the word in the above code, 'text'.
Make sure that you go to the end of the sentence and add the code that stops the font. In HTML whenever you want to stop something you must use the / symbol with the > which means to end. If you miss this part you will end up with every word after the first < being the colored font.

Now you can do this with all the primary colors. You can use "purple", "yellow", "green" and so on.

Once you are done with all your color changes click on the submit button to draft. Then go back and check to make sure all your colors are there.
This is the simplest way to change colors of your text in your posts to Active Rain. UPDATE: When I went to give you the code last night, it was here and it was right, but then sometime during the night or this morning, the html code turned to the word red in red. So I am putting the code in the comments below, please look for the code there.

Great tutorial.  Just be careful - too much color can detract from a serious post!

Ginger Wilcox, Marin County Realtor

Ginger- I got a ton more views from consumers on my short sales post when I used color versus not using color. Just enough, not too much unless of course you are doing something fun. I would not use it on my listing posts because the photos have all the color you need on a post. For this tutorial I used a lot of color to teach the lesson. And I like to use the red to make something important. All in fun :)

Errr ... this is great, but where the heck is the "post to draft" button? I understand just enough HTML to be dangerous. Thanks for the nudge! ... but where is "post to draft?"

When you post your post go down to the bottom of your post, click the menu for posting and click draft. Sorry, I did not make it clear. Then submit the post in draft mode. Does that make more sense? Let me know. Katerina

Katerina, THANK YOU !!!

I can't wait to try it out, if I mess up expect your phone to ring. Sounds easier than I thought just a little more time to write and submit.

It makes such a difference in your posts since you started doing this, really makes the points stand out.

Okay, now you've gone and done it. This place is going to look like a crayon factory on Spring Break. I still do not know how to include the html command. Aren't ypu supposed to write some code like

<text:red> This is the color red. </text:red>

Clueless I am.

Oops. Please excuse my previous ramblings. Hey, I did it!

The html code I wrote was <font color="green"> text text text text </font>. Something tells me there's an easier way.

Katerina, Yes AR has a "bug" here. If you "edit" your post later you will lose all the color. I don't know why this is. I think that they should fix it so that your HTML code is not lost with an edit to WYSIWYG.

Nice tutorial.

UPDATE: The code for the colors is:

<font color="red"> text </font>

What happened is that I put the code in my post. When I went to publish it, it was fine. The people commenting last night had no problem seeing the code, then all of a sudden this morning I come to the post and my code is gone!

I see comments asking about where is the code!

What happened is the system in the middle of the night picked up my code and turned it to the color red, that is why you see the word "text" in red,

I can not go back to html editor to add back in the code because it will just change back to the color again.

I can not go into WYSIWYG editor and add the code, which would work, except there is a bug in AR and it will erase all my colors when I hit submit!

 Sorry for the inconvenience. Katerina

Katerina, I did the link like in your comments and it all turned red. I did do the /> after the sentence. Anyway, I went ahead and posted in b/w.. Yuk...

I'll call you next week and see if you can walk me through it, but after an hour of messing with it I gave up.

I copied the link exactly like in your comment so  I am missing something ,but Andrew got it so it must be right.

Missy-

<font color="red"> text </font>

You have  to put </font>    after the words where you want the red to stop. You have to tell WHAT to stop. /> just says stop, but has not command of what to stop. You want to stop the font.

Keith- I forgot about this post! I am glad you found it. I have some other people who wanted to know how to add color. Nvu is no longer a downloadable product, you have to use their new version, which is called, Kompozer. IT is free as well. Good luck. It was great to have you in my SEO TO THE TOP webinar.
