This is the one week anniversary of my "moment of fame" in the New York Times Escapes section. I was flying high because my adorable Big Canoe cabin on 9073 Yearling Lane was a featured listing. I was initially concerned that my charming 2 bedroom, 2 bath log cabin would pale in comparison with the 700K to 3.3M homes nestled in the other gated communities sprinkled throughout the USA. The results were phenomenal!
It all started with a call from Bethany Lyttle who asked me about one of my homes. I responded with the usual information and invited her to come see the home and community of Big Canoe for herself. She then told me that she was a writer for the New York Times Escapes section. Then she asked me to send some pics to her editor. This was real! My little listing, PLUS my name AND my website was not in a little 3 line classified, but FEATURED listing in the NYT! WHOA! I have a tendency to be overly optimistic and had to reign myself back to reality. It was tough not to run around screaming the news but I tried very hard to keep it under hat. Then Friday came along with the Times!! My mom who lives in the greater NYC area couldn't get the paper because there was a snowstorm but her neighbor gave her his copy to mail to me. I saw it online and was initially disappointed as I had to stalk it down. I couldn't get a physical copy but waited patiently. My inlaws picked one up and said it looked fabulous. Of course I wanted to see it for myself but had to wait because they were on vacation. When I finally got it I was very pleased!
The free plug on IBA Mountain Homes courtesy of the New York Times has been very beneficial, and I pray that even half of the calls follow through to sales. The people I spoke to were across the country and very interested in our modestly priced gated mountain community in the North Georgia mountains.
I thank my lucky stars, Bethany Lyttle, and most of all my husband Dan who is the website guru!!!!
