Have you ever went out in the world with the intent on being overly friendly to everyone you come in contact with that day? What do you think your day would be like? I have done this several times lately, after reading a couple of books by Scott Ginsberg. Don't get me wrong, I am generally a nice guy and I even have some AR bonus points for being a nice to other AR members. But I am rarely conscience of my interactions with other people. So, on certain days I put on my hand written name tag (curiosity of Scott Ginsberg) and a smile to tackle the world with a friendly attitude.
What I have found on my friendly adventures:
- People are friendlier when you are nice to them.
- I smile more.
- I have a better day.
- I have genuine conversations about topics other than the weather or today's interest rate.
- People have a reason to say "hi" the next time they see me.
- If I am lucky I make a friend.
With all these encouraging interactions I have decided to make every Friday Friendly Day. On Friendly Day I pay attention to everyone I meet: the store clerk, my waitress, a nurse, all the Realtors, a receptionist and anyone else I come in contact with that day. I say hi and ask a thought provoking question. (Like: What do you recommend on the menu? or What is new with in your company?) Then I listen, add any comments and smile. Another great contact.
I encourage you to have a Friendly Day. Take a day to pay attention to the people around you. Be conscience of the effect your friendliness has on them. Then enjoy your day.
Jimmy, I will gladly celebrate Friendly Friday day with you. It is great to share your joy, and you might make someone's day a little bit better.
