Today my wife asked me to take a walk with her in the back roads of Green Valley, CA.   Just a peaceful two mile stroll to let off some stress and have some time alone together in the Country.  When we returned home, I went upstairs to my office to check my email.  When I opened up my Yahoo email, this is what I saw:

Now at first glance, I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, but when I saw the name Rick Andersohn (spelled with an "H" )  I just about fell off my chair.  I couldn't open it quick enough!!  I have not seen or heard from my Brother in over 40 years!  He is the only other Andersohn from my real father!  The last I remember ever seeing him was when I was 5 or 6 years old!  Yes, that was over 40 years ago though I know many of you don't think I'm a day over 30!  LOL!~

I started thinking to myself that this was WAY TO GOOD and Cool to be true, someone must be playing a joke on me.  I have searched the earth for my brother Rick for as long as I can remember.  I use to run his name on reunion.com, I tried to Google him as recently as Christmas this past year, I have never given up hope that one day I would find my brother Rick Andersohn.

So you can imagine my surprise when I saw his name in this email!  OMG!!  I still can't believe this is happening.  I feel like Oprah or Dr. Phil is going to be calling me any second now.  When I opened the email from (supposedly) my brother, this is what it read:

Now I'm freaking out!  I know this is him!  I can't believe it!  My brother found me on Active Rain after being separated for more than 40 years.  I emailed him back immediately and asked him where he was and how he was doing?  Are you ready for this?  He emails me back with his phone number and it's in the same area code as mine!  HOLY COWABUNGA!!  Now I am shaking all over including my hands which were having difficulty dialing his number quick enough!

A continuing and unfolding story short...

Well, we just hung up the phone after talking for almost 2 hours.  OMG!!!! - I can't believe this!  I am going to go meet with him, my older brother who I didn't know was even still alive or where in the world he might be.  I'm finally going to see him!!  We have so much to talk about, so many things I want to share with him.  So many questions I need answered about my grandparents and my father.  I am still very much in shock that this is happening to me right now.  I have laughed and cried more today than anytime I can recently remember.

I have to say this, and I mean this so sincerely, if it weren't for Active Rain, this may have never happened.  I have looked high and low for my older brother for so many years and been unsuccessful every time.  To have him find and contact me through Active Rain is nothing short of a miracle in my opinion.  I am and will forever be grateful for this place, the experiences, and this day, which I will remember for the rest of my life!  I can't even begin to tell you how much this means to me and to the entire "Andersohn" family.  Our lives have been changed and the experiences we have had here are  unprecedented and priceless.

This is a photo of me and my brother Rick Andersohn from the last time I remember seeing him!  I think the photo is from 1967 or 1968.  Thank God for Active Rain and for putting us back together after 40+ years!  Thank You, Thank You, THANK YOU!!  I can't wait to see my brother!!  I'm not gonna be able to sleep tonight, I just know it....

EDITED AND UPDATED:   MARCH 8th, 2008 - "THE UPDATE"

Well my brother and I have been keeping in contact now and emailing each other photos, we're trying to setup a time to meet.  He works crazy hours and weekends for his company.  I am already learning so much about him that I didn't know.  He works out, he's an important team member of his company, he works odd and crazy hours, and he's just as excited I think to see me.  He just sent me a photo of him and my dad long after I had lost touch with him.  I had never seen what my brother looked like until today.  We are going meet on April 20th, Saturday.  This is the first time he'll have available due to a hectic first quarter schedule. That's so great, Brad!  What a super sweet photo too.  Reminds me of New Year's Day five years ago when I found out I had a 36-year-old nephew I never knew about (my sister had given him up for adoption when she was 18).  He lives in Salem, Mass, and met his wife through the internet.  They now have two adorable children and a whole new family--us!

Courtney - thanks for sharing some tears, believe me, they are shared!  I'll most certainly keep you posted once I get to see him.  I found out he only lives about an hour and thirty minutes away from me.  I can't wait to see him.  This is my brother, I still can't believe it!!

Jennifer - Not sure I'll sleep till I see him, as skeptical as I am, I know it's him, but that first hug and seeing him with my own two eyes is going to be "The Experience of a LIFETIME!" at least for me!

BTW - I'd love to read that other story, I'll try and do a search on AR for it, unless you have it, or remember what it was called, or who the member was...let me know.  Thanks!

Jo - it is nothing short of amazing!!  As my wife and I walked through the country back roads tonight, it was so peaceful and beautiful, and while I was enjoying the simple things in life with her, God was preparing the much more complex and miraculous things!  In the still and quiet moments of our walk, many of our steps were deep in thought, but nothing this deep!!  ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!

Absolutely amazing.  AR pulls off another wonderful story.  I'm gonna have to hang up my blogging.  Can't top that story.....and in the same area code....how bizarre.  All that internet searching for your brother and you could have just checked your local phone book.  I wish you a great reunion and another 40 years to get re-acquainted.

Brad - I can soooo relate to what you are feeling. I found five members of my family, and my natural father all in the same day ~ I was at the dentist and when I got home the answering machine was going crazy. You are indeed blessed. Over the years the connection that was made that day has lead to a bunch of neices, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and a pretty awesome step-mom. As a professional genealogist (which is was caused me to really start looking) and a person, it has just been a huge, wonderful shift in my life. Hang on for the ride!

Oh Shoot!  I have to call my MOM!  She is going to FREAK!!!   She has not seen or heard from him either since then.....  it's 11:00pm, I better wait till the morning! LOL!~  :-)

Jesse - if that photo was taken in 1966 or 67, then I was 4 or 5, so to be more precise, It's over 41 years.  He is 5 years older....I think....just one more thing I need to find out and know.  I don't even know my brothers birthday!  I was too small when we were separated.   Glad you came across this story so unexpected, you helped me add another question to my list of many to ask him about!  Thanks!  :-)

Mike - it is so bizarre as you say!  He told me he has kept a pretty low profile. He said he saw a photo of me on the internet about 10 years ago, but for unknown reasons, either couldn't or wasn't able to contact me.  So many questions though, it will be an awesome reunion no matter what knowledge and stories I come away with.  He is my family and now we have a chance to meet and are getting back together!  That's all that matters to me!  For  the next 40 years, I know I'll never lose him again!

Thanks Mike and an extra special "thanks" to Active Rain!!

Heather - OMG!  I can tell you know the feelings and understand the emotions I am going through right now.  I have often that long and hard about what if I found Rick someday, and also, what if I didn't?  Now that I have, I know what you're talking about, this could be huge...in fact, it already is...I now know that I have a half sister somewhere who's name is Sherry Park and Rick thinks she's somewhere in Scotts Valley, CA.

That's another thing I'll have to put on my list of things to find out.  Maybe I'll just print my Blog Post, and take it with me to help remind me of all these questions I'm gonna have.  I am going to be so excited to see him for the first time, my brain will probably freeze!   I may have to inquire of your genealogist expertise, with a name spelled like "Andersohn" you'd think it would be a breeze, not the case.  Let's talk again soon if you're interested.

Thanks Heather, I love your story and would love to read more about it in detail. 5 members and your DAD in a single day, WOW!  and then the turn of events to follow...OMG!  Hey, how about you write a post with more details, it would make for a great Blog post....    :-)

Hi Brad - I got this in your Feedblitz update and had to rush over here to read it again, and now I've seen the other pictures you posted in the comments.  What very special pictures those are, and you two were cute as could be.  Still are?

What an awesome story this is - and you're right in the comment above where you said a 'story' for us, but real life for you.  I had tears in my eyes as I read your post, twice, and they're still there.  I can read and feel your excitement in every word you've written, and I hope you get to meet him very soon.  How coincidental you're both in the same area.  How powerful the internet is, huh?  And Active Rain's power allowed this to happen to you and for you - no need to say make the most of this fabulous gift you've been given......  Blessed indeed!!!!

What a year these 1st two months have already been for you, huh?

Hugs to you Brad!

Hi Brad, this story has brought chills running down my spine as I know exactly what you are going through. I  know how sleepless nights can be. I have gone through 53 years not knowing my biological mother and then finding out I have a brother and sister is beyond belief.

We all talk at least once a week and we are planning a trip to Germany hopefully some time this year.

You certainly are blessed and I only hope for the best for you and your family.

Life is Good....

Brad, I guess I'll echo Neal's comment and questions. Something about our species that we always need to know why. How do two brothers become separated for forty years? (I have three and could not imagine the pain of that separation.)

We all respect your private space and celebrate today's blessed milestone in your family's history.

Brad: My sincerest congratuations to you. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. I am so thrilled for you...your stories always take that most dramatic turns. Seriously, isn't the Internet amazing? In a different age, you would have gone to your grave without knowing anything about your brother.

Thanks for sharing this! Needs a feature!!!!!

2:16pm • #80

Ann

Hi Ann - You are the BEST!  I have never had a year like this before.  One miracle and experience after another.  I have Active Rain, Google, and friends like you to thank for this reuniting!  If it weren't for google, he wouldn't have searched, if it weren't for Active Rain, he wouldn't have found me, and if it weren't for friends like you, I wouldn't have come back and kept posting here!  The world is an incredible place with incredible people, and the internet seems to be the wire that keeps us all connected!  Thanks Ann, you are a dear friend that I appreciate more and more every day!  God Bless!  :-)

Brad... That is certainly one of the big benefits of putting ourselves out there.... Long lost friends and relatives can easily find us.  Hope you have a great reunion!  And what a small world... I stumble in here 20 minutes after my "older" sis.... LOL

Dan - the unexplainable is what keeps life a mystery huh?  Thanks for the wishes, and BTW - your "Older" sister ROCKS!  :-)

Tony - I am humbled by your comment and do choose to believe this is all about good Karma!!  I have been looking for my brother so long, I had forgotten that he might be looking for me too!  It is going to be a "long day" when we get together, so much to catch up on after 40 years...thanks my friend!  :-)

Brad, I just had to jump in and say congratulations! Don't know if I'd be able to wait, although it's been 41 years already. What a beautiful blessing. Definitely keep us informed of how everything goes.

Dawn - I am just like you!!!  I don't think I'm going to be able to wait! LOL!~  I'll keep you up to date once I get to meet my brother in person, we're planning it this next week. I'm so excited!!!!!   :-)

Brad, what a message to wake up too. Miracles do happen, I am estatic for you and your family, can't wait to hear about your meeting, get lots of photo's. I know he probably couldn't sleep either. First Jay's birth mom and now you brother.

Activerain is so powerful. I flagged for a feature, not sure why it hasn't been unless they are not awake.

I will rejoice in this all day!!!

Hi Missy - rejoice, rejoice, rejoice!  I just read Jay and Monika's posts about Jay's mom.  I got chills, and tears just knowing that he knows exactly what I am feeling right now.  Turns out both our families are from Germany! The world just keeps getting smaller and smaller and we are more connected than ever with the use of the internet!  Truly incredible times we live in right now, I wouldn't have it any other way!

BTW - Active Rain is the Bomb, but it's the people here that make it EXPLODE!!

HAVING A BLAST!!! (no pun intended LOL)  :-))))))

I have spent most of today reading Deepak Chopra's new book "The Third Jesus" and then came in to check my email. I have to say, " WOOOOO  HOOOOOO!

I appreciate all your comments and thank you for sharing in the excitement and the experience.  I will keep you all posted in this post with what happens this weekend.  I read Monika and Jay's story and I was very touched and realize how blessed I truly am.    When my brother emailed me with those words (You Are Blessed) I don't think he realized how much I was blessed because of him!  I honestly can't wait to see him!!  :-)

I will get and take photos when I see him!  Thanks again for all the love and support you awesome people have provided me here, words could NEVER express how grateful I am, and for the joyful emotions you have ALL given me!  I am truly Blessed, thank YOU!!  :-)

This little guy says thanks to "ACTIVE RAIN" for providing a place for his big brother to find him.
