As Auburn continues to grow its population and expand its city limits, the north section is seeing a good measure of exciting developments. 2007 saw the long-awaited completion of Richland Road (August), whereby a narrow, low access road was transformed into a 35-foot wide city street, with curbs, gutters, and 8-foot sidewalks. From Shug Jordan Parkway, the road extends over a mile, and, according to proposed city planning, is expected to ultimately connect to an Auburn Outer Loop, connecting the I-85 and the 280. Traffic lights are currently being installed at the intersection of Shug Jordan and Richland Road. The construction of the road was instigated by the planned development of THE COTSWOLDS Home For Sale at THE COTWOLDS in Auburn. Alabama - Auburn, AL real estate, a place to live, when local and state resources were called upon and introduced to a vision for expansion by the developer, several years ago. In June of 2006, the City of Auburn partnered with Auburn University, and began the building of Yarbrough Tennis Center, a ten-acre complex on Richland Road that was completed in June of 2007. It is open to the public, has memberships available, and is also the new HOME for the men's and women's tennis teams of AU. Locker rooms and a designated meeting space, a pro shop, 12 outdoor courts with stadium seating, 16 clay courts, and 6 indoor courts, are all features of this beautiful, brand new facility.
On acreage adjacent to the Yarbrough Tennis Center, a new elementary school will be opening its doors this year, aptly named Richland Elementary School.
Hi Mara, now that is some beautiful BLUE SKIES...great pictures! I noticed you were on a team? Next time you are on one of my blogs, let me know a little more about your team. Not many AR's on teams. I've had a team for 16 years, long before it was vogue. I'm in Katy, which is 28 miles out of Houston Texas and that's were most people work. Good job, Liz
Liz, I'm glad you could enjoy the beautiful blue skies, via the photos! It was a gorgeous weekend here. Now it's raining again. Look for my teamtalk in your email. Thanks for reading my post!
Judy, Thanks for stopping by here! I love taking photos, and am happy when they turn out well. I remember the cold & snowy winters back in the Chicago area. Did you ever hear (in history) about the famous blizzard of '64? I was there! :-) Joy for your day and Godspeed for spring!
Mara- yes I was there also... and remember it well. We lived by Devon and Sacremento in Chicago and my dady worked about 10 miles from there. I think he walked home. It was great.
Judy - what a day in history that was! We lived on the south side. I remember the school sent everyone home before lunch, and I walked by myself (a mile) & kept sitting down in the drifts because I was tired of climbing over the snow. At one point, I was enjoying the bright sun that was shining through a low visibility area, and sat down & ate the chocolate bar from my lunchbox. When I finally made it home & watched the drifts continue to peak around the house, I imagined I was in a gingerbread house. That must have been 1st or 2nd grade. My dad also walked home that night, and said forever afterwards that he imagined he was Dr. Zhivago! Goodness!
Fantastic....great job Mara!
