What is in a crayon box of REALTORS?

Real Estate Agent with eXp Realty LLC 0225227139

There are as many real estate professionals out there as their are color combinations.  We come with a variety of personalities.  Yes, believe it or not all real estate agents are not the same.  We are people too.  There are good ones there are no so good ones.  They are young & old, skinny & fat.  Some are easy to talk to others are more aloof.  Some are very competitive some are a softer sale.  Some are very organized and others rely on the organization of their assistants.  Some are better listeners than others. Some are more pragmatic in their communication style others are aesthetic.  Some are introspective others are not.  Some are great at getting things started others are better about wrapping them up.  Some can see the big picture long term 30 years down the road others have a more near-sided prospective.  All of these are good qualities depending on your personality and your unique situation and goals.

We real estate professionals are just like many other hard working people.  We have families and friends, successes and disappointments in life.

So hard to you sort out the good, the bad and the ugly?  Take the time to get to know your agent.  The more your agent knows about you the better they can help you.  The better you know your agent the more likely you are to develop a trusting relationship.

I know trusting someone with your home and your families life can be stressful.  Finding an agent that will work hard for you and put your interest first is not impossible as it may sound.  Picking the right agent is just as important as picking the right house.

Most people just pick the first agent that calls them back.  Well your counting on the luck of the draw there and I wish you luck.

Make a list.  What is it that you want in an agent. Is it important that the agent lay the cards on the table and be up front and honest or would you rather a more subtle approach?  Is it important that an agent be highly competative and high energy or does a softer image best suit your style?

I would recommend you ask some of your friends if they could recommend a good agent.  Maybe someone they have worked with or know someone who knows someone who has worked with them.

Read a few real estate blogs.  This is a great way to get to know your agent before even contacting them.  Develop an on-line relationship prior to hiring them as your agent.

Each real estate transaction is different because the circumstances are different each time.  The people involved are different each time. Finding the agent you can trust and is best suited for your transaction is important to your success.  Selling your home and purchasing a home is one of the biggest decisions you will make in your life and picking the right agent can make a big difference.

Nanette, You are so right, there are several types of real estate professions out there. As this is a relationship business, getting the right agent is important.

Great analogy....people need to profile agents so that they know what they're getting.....any schmo who answers the phone will provide info and put together a contract, but are they serving the client....you know?

Great analogy.  When I work with buyers I don't ask them to sign a buyer's agency agreement until we've been out to look at houses.  And, I prefer to drive my clients around because it gives me a good feel for who they are and how they think.  I do this because it also gives them a good feel for me.  I tell them upfront if after we've been out once we don't click and you would rather work with someone else that's fine with me.  I want them to be completely comfortable with me and me with them before we're in it for the long haul.  I have only got one client that I don't have on my sphere of influence and I've only lost three buyers after the first trip out.  I think that's pretty good after 20+ years.

Nanette, I do it exactly the same as June.  When I meet buyers at my Buyer listing appointment, I tell them the first time is for "Free".  If after that we decide to work together then we will draw up the BBA at the next appointment.  I have had great success with this over my career.  GREAT POST!
