SandyWhat is so remarkable about the agent website I just finished?  It's for a 91 year old real estate agent who decided she needed to boost her online marketing presence.  That's right - 91 and a real estate agent for 50 years right here in Northern Virginia.  When I got the call from Sandy Augliere on Friday, I wasn't too surprised since I had been in the Long & Foster Falls Church Office on Tuesday giving a presentation about effectively using web based marketing.  What is more striking to me is that just the night before, I had purchased the domain name www.SellingLakeBarcroft.com thinking it was too good to leave available and surely one of the Falls Church agents would want it.  Then Sandy called on Friday saying she had a listing in Lake Barcroft and it was the most expensive listing in the history of the community; a community she has lived in for the 50 years she has been a real estate agent.  I said, "Sandy would you like to have the domain name www.SellingLakeBarcroft.com for your website?"  And she thought that would be a pretty good idea, so that's what we've done.

Swim with the SharksNow I'm not a person normally prone to superstition and looking for "signs."  But sometimes what we call "signs" are nothing more than life unfolding the way it is meant to.  Every Thursday morning I get an email from Harvey MacKay and I have for years.  He is one of the most inspirational business writers I know and his columns always provide something of value: a perspective that is fresh or a reminder of things worth remembering every day.  His column on Feb. 28th was one of his best: Facts Inform but Passion Moves.  It is about those who live life with great passion.  And living with passion is surely a choice; one that I have made and one that Sandy Augliere has made too.  Reading Harvey's column is to understand why those who love what they do truly don't work a day in their life.  When I grow up (if I grow up) I hope to still be doing what I love at the age of 91 the way Sandy does it every day.  She is a credit to the profession of real estate and an inspiration to all who know her!

Hi Catherine,

Thank you for sharing.  I like Harvey's MacKay's last sentence:

"Mackay's Moral: The biggest challenge is not to add years to your life-but passion to your years."

Catherine, that was a great blog and very inspirational. I hope that I am that spry at 91 ..... Actually I hope I'm alive and still have a satisfying life.

Your Headline caught my attention "Do It with Passion" .... Oh My, I was thinking something a little more racy.

Leslie - I agree with you in recognizing his moral as the real lesson.  I have to tell you that getting his emails every Thursday really makes my week!  I've learned a lot from Harvey Mackay!

Sean - Titles are always difficult to come up with.  But in this instance, if it caught your attention, it did the job!  91 is a remarkable achievement to contemplate, but to still be working and loving what you do - how do you measure the value of that?

Catherine,

Thanks for the post.  As Sandy's manager, we are the beneficiaries of the wealth of knowledge she brings on a daily basis.  She is always willing to share with us the wisdom she has acquired over the years.  Sandy drives herself to the office every day, doesn't need to wear glasses, and just listed a $3.9 million home!  She is truly a gift and quite a remarkable person.

You are lucky Lars!  And so is Long & Foster.  Anyone who thinks the market is tough today should talk to Sandy about what 50 years of ups and downs really looks like!  And she's STILL in the business!

Hey. Sandy Augliere is my grandmother actually.  While googling her name, I came across this website.  I am so happy that she has been blogged.  If she isn't already aware of this page, I would love to show it to her, I know she would be thrilled.

Thanks!

Anna, the story gets even better.  Sandy sold that million dollar listing in Lake Barcroft and got both sides of the transaction!  A great agent is a great agent and Sandy is still getting the job done!  We should all be so fortunate when we are 91!
