Prospect or Position? (Part 1)

If your really serious about building a business, you need to POSITIION Yourself before you PROSEPCT!

 WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

PROSPECTING is purchasing material and contacting people with the intent of convincing them that they, or someone they know should do business with you.  Prospecting is "PUSHING" for business.

POSITIONING is creating an image, a reputation, and an overall sense of success and helpfulness (service) that is evident in all of your professional efforts.  Positioning is "ATTRACTING" business to you by creating an identity people want to be a part of, not run from.

Prospecting is critical and is proven.  But what is also known, be it not as practiced, is that by positioning yourself or business to be seen a particular way, your prospecting efforts will not only be made easier, but in many cases, less necessary.

Why?  Positioning allows us to recieve, in the form of referrals, or repeat business. As we position ourselves to the target market we serve, that market, when they or someone they know needs what we are positioned to provide, find us.

I will offer more tips and ideas on how to position in the coming weeks.  Please feel free to share any ideas you might have.  I would most appreciate that as well.
