We are always looking for value added services that we can provide to our clients to make us stand out from our competition.  There may be one staring you right in the face - property taxes.

Your clients may not realize they can have their property reassessed and the corresponding real property taxes lowered because of the declining real estate market.  You might be able to save your clients thousands of dollars in annual property tax expenses.  Think about how much they will love you!

There has certainly been lots of media coverage regarding the decline in real estate prices over the last 18 months or so, but the one thing that the media never seems to do is offer suggestions on what your clients can do.  We discuss it with our clients at all of our client meetings and seminars now as a value added service.

For example, you can lower your property taxes by having your California real property reassessed under Proposition 8 for property tax purposes. If your property is not in California, you should contact your local jurisdiction responsible for real property tax assessments to learn what you can do.

There are a number of good companies that can assist you with the process as well, including a company that I have used personally called The Property Tax Savings Specialists

I just thought I would share a thought about how you might be able to help your clients.

7 Comments on Help Your Clients Lower Their Property Taxes in a Declining Real Estate Environment

Hey William,

That is so right, go through your files of everyone that bought in the last two years and let them know what to do.

Take care!

Hi RJH,

Yes, I think everyone would be amazed at the "brownie points" that it earns you.  It's a simple suggestion, but could be a huge marketing opportunity.  It's a real value add.

I have been able to do that for a handful of clients. They LOVED it! It doesn't take too much work and they think you just handed them a fistful of cash! (cause you sorta actually did!)

Hi Matt,

You are so right!  And, they should become a repeat client, which is the best part.

Hey William, FYI, that link does not appear to be working. It appears that the link should work just fine... perhaps the host site is down momentarily...

I just checked and it seems to be working now.  Let me know if you have any further trouble with it.  Thanks.
