Introducing White Plains, NY 10601 – The County Seat of Westchester – Photo Overview IV – The Softer Side of Downtown White Plains – Tibbets Park

Although I have depicted downtown White Plains as mostly steel, glass and concrete, the downtown has a softer side once you get to the downtown residential areas on and around North Broadway.

It’s an amazing transition really.  The hubbub of the downtown ends abruptly at North Broadway where the west side of the street is part of the concrete, glass and steel jungle and the eastern side of Broadway becomes purely residential.  Many older coop complexes grace the eastern side of North Broadway giving the area an distinctly residential and more subdued feel when compared to the area by City Center that includes Trump Tower and the Ritz Carlton.  A coop on North Broadway in the 10601 zip code is considered prime real estate and with good reason.  It is so close to the center of town that you can be at City Center in five minutes flat on foot, but just far enough away to be shielded from the commotion. Tibbets Park is literally the buffer zone that makes the transition from a city scape to a residential neighborhood complete.  It lies in the middle of North Broadway separating the western and eastern sides of North Broadway with a small slice of park.

Shortly after a major snowfall I had a walk through part of Tibbets Park and took some photographs.  Here is a small sample city life in downtown White Plains’s “softer side.”

Plenty of places to sit and enjoy the scenery - when it's warmer out !

I like the look of the softer side. Tibbets Park looks to be from a previous, slower paced, era.

Thanks Patrice,

I did several earlier ones, which I should have linked to, but they were more about the downtown. White Plains varies dramatically from neighborhood to neighborhood. So you go from one extreme to the other.
