Today's
home buyer is typically looking for a space about 20 percent larger than their current home. But if they can't see that additional space through all the stuff they won't buy it. How about cutting out some closet clutter? Professional experts say we wear only 20 percent of our clothes 80 percent of the time, which means that much of what is in our closet is rarely used. If you are digging through piles of clothes to find what you are looking for, it may be time to reorganize. Closet design pros suggest the following;

- Empty the closet completely sorting items into 3 piles KEEP, TOSS, & DONATION so you can see what you have. Not sure what to keep or get rid of? Ask the opinion of a friend or family member for a second pair of eyes.
- Torn, stained or otherwise damaged items should be thrown away. Remove these items right away to prevent the temptation to put them back in the closet. Take them directly to the trash.
- Unwanted items in good condition should be donated. A very popular Edmond charity is the HOPE Center. If you donate to the Edmond HOPE Center you must drop off your items during business hours. Any items left outside overnight are thrown in the dumpster the next morning.
- Sort the remaining clothes either by color, type of clothing or season. Whichever way works best for you.
- Clean the inside of the closet before putting everything away. Vaccuum the floors, scrub the shelves and even a crisp coat of paint may be in order. You may want to consider adding a shelving system to organize like items.
