A few days ago, 2 posts about spam & plagiarism caught my eye...

Is that Featured Post Plagiarized?  by Kathy McGraw

"Would You like a Side of SPAM with Your Comments?" - AR Guidelines Re-Visited  by Rich Jacobson

I'm not naive enough to think that spam in any of it's forms will ever be totally eliminated. People desperate for attention will keep trying to get us to read their junk.

In the past month or two, I've noticed a few(very few) members of the marketing group submitting the same post 3 or 4 times, one right after another. I've also noticed  one gentleman who has a tendency to submit 10 to 20 posts(not kidding) within an hour. Obviously these are not original posts, just reprints of someone else's stuff. This is on top of the normal spam stuff like "here is who I am and here is what I want to sell you!".

In Kathy's post about plagiarism I made a comment about outing spammers and people desperate for attention. I'm not sure if I want to do this or how the rest of the group members feel about it but I'd love to have some input and feedback.  My idea is that if you...

- post outright spam/sales pitches

- submit the same post 3, 4, 5 + times in a row

- submit plagiarized material

- submit 10 - 20 posts within an hour

I will give you more attention that you're probably looking for by posting your pic and the offending posts as an example of what not to do in our group.

As I said, right now it's just an idea I'm toying with and since our group has almost 4900 members, I thought we should all have our say on this. Personally I know I'm tired of reading off topic stuff, spam and posts from copy & pasters so... Spammers, plagiarisers, etc... If you're really looking for attention, you may get more than you expected.

Any opinions? feedback? Suggestions? Let me know... And now, some of the must read marketing posts from this past week...

Marti....  I only read the first 3 comments or so....  but I would warn them once....  and if they didn't get it, yes, block them. But if they are doing everything that you say they are doing?  I would have no problem with this... but I would plaster their name in a post and mention this. We need to use people as examples... how else does someone else take notice. Hey, I have no problem with someone's answer as... "gee, I didn't know"... I wouldn't believe their answer 100% to the crap that you mentioned that they are doing. But I try not ti judge and give everyone the benefit of the doubt. But a 2nd time, especially with what you mentioned.???  Brand them all over...  being naive is one thing and no common sense... but being stupid, outright sneaky is another thing that I don't stand for, period...  I would back you up 110% on this and if you wanted me to, post some myself.

Hey,.... I consider myself a nice person... Marti, I consider you a nice person... but I am tired of people walking all over me or abusing certain platforms... yes, we can put a stop to this... yes, we do have control over this...  maybe I'll go back and read all of the other comments to see that I am not the only one 110% behind this.

On another positive note....  again, another great collection of some great blogs. And thanks for the double mention and for the kind words...

Mmmmmmmmidori... I have a wicked truffle recipe as well. I don't drink or smoke so chocolate is my vice of choice;-)

Jeff... agreed, a very few pinheads cause the problems. Publicly humiliating them doesn't seem to be a popular idea so I'll learn to live with it or totally block them, depending on my mood that day. Thx for the great posts again this week!

Marti,

I was able to add it now...hopefully I won't lose another feature...they-revoked two of mine because the system caused any changes in blog posts to lose the feature.

marti- Thank you so much for another mention of another one of my SEO posts! I sure do appreciate your link love! I agree with Bob on the spam thing. You do have to be concerned and you do have to take action. You can not ignore spammers because they weaken your google positions! Google expect our sites to keep it in check. Katerina

Hi Marti-  Well, looks like you're running about 50 against and 4 for posting the offending blogs.  I still think there's a way to be in compliance with the guidelines and Post the Posts....maybe not the Posters and their Picture, but something.  If the consequences aren't immediate and consistent, then why should those people stop.  If someone posts 6 posts, and only 2 or 3 get found....well they accomplished their goal.  Sure you're frustrated, but you, me, and us (the membership) aren't even considered in the Posting.......it's all about them.   I liked Rich's comment.....put Lenn in charge of AR Plagiarism :) :)

Thanks for mentioning my Post.....now all Moderators should make sure we don't Feature them, and be consistent on what we should do about it, in our Groups, as Bob said.  Do they still have Nicole?????

OK, enough attention to the ones that misbehave, here's a "Nice Job" to the Good Posts you chose  :) :)

Tim & Julie... promotion is great but on the net, in your face spam type stuff just turns people off and clutters up the useful info. Thx for the feedback.
