Sun City Center and alternative transportation

One of the many favorable features of living in Sun City Center is the fact that you don't have to start your car up to go anywhere in Town.  Golf Carts are a legal second means of transportation.

golf carts

Although Sun City Center is considered a Golf Community, you don't have to be a golfer to own a golf cart nor are you restricted to operating them solely on the golf course.  A lot of folks buy them as a means to get around Town.

During daylight hours, youcan travel on any of the road in town with the exception of State Roads 674 and 301. And of course you can't drive them on the Interstate highways either (although we have had some folks try).  There are three (3) authorized crossing areas on State Road 674 for golf carts.  There are also alternate routes to get you to the shopping areas without having to go on the Stata Roads.

Since Wal-Mart moved to their new Super-center across State Rd. 301, it does pose a problem for golf carts as it is illegal to cross Hwy. 301 in them.  The community is working on a plan of action to address this problem.

This alternative means of transportation is a great help to a lot of the residents here in Sun City Center.  It does take some getting used to for our out of town visitors.  They don't know what to do when they come upon golf carts traversing our roadways.  Best to remember that although they are required to follow all rules of the road as if they were licensed automobile, some drivers don't always drive as such.

It's not unusual to see hundreds of these golf carts traveling throughout the Streetsof Sun City Center during early morning and mid afternoon.

What a great concept.  It's wonderful that they allow the folks to drive around the streets in those carts.

Hal, wish they would approve golf carts in our town. Being a resort town I think it would be a perfect tie in while help to save fuel and parking spots.
