How was I to know, my neighbor up the way is a Granola Gourmet.  Jeff Cohen approached me the other day with a see through plastic container filled with Brownie Granola bars.  Of course he had my undivided attention at that point as he began to share with me the story behind this new business he created from his own kitchen. "Here try this, these bars are not only good, but they are good for you"  Well he didn't have to ask me twice and I began to chew on the first of many Granola bars that evening.  My personal favorite thus far is the "Brownies"

Jeff began to share his story as to what motivated him and his wife (Anita) to create these delicious bars.

I learned that Jeff is a Diabetic and the ingredients he uses allows Diabetics such as himself to enjoy these as well.  He even had a friend who is a local endocrinologist look into the makeup of these bars and endorsed them.  "These are really good, Tell me more" (between bites) as I continued to sample another "Granola Gourmet" bar.  Jeff continued mentioning that the bars are so popular that he began selling them on line and is looking into other ways of increasing his ability to keep up with demand.  He recently found one way and that was to create a website Granolagourmet.com so we can order on line.  Jeff is presently working on other ways to improve the distribution of his new product.  Of course all he has to do is walk over to my place for my deliveries.

Now I am not a Diabetic however eating snacks like this will help me avoid becoming one.  I understand that each bar equates to approximately "3 points" if your on the Weight Watchers program which I am presently on.

Jeff is a good guy and he has a great product you should try for yourself.  If you know someone in your group of friends or family who is a diabetic have them sample this.  But you don't need to be a Diabetic to get it, in fact as I mentioned earlier it could be one additional way to avoid becoming one.

Pablo, thanks for so much for the great referral on this site to www.granolagourmet.com!  I'd be happy to provide information to anyone interested.  I can be reached at jeff@granolagourmet.com.

Mara is asking about the recipe, so I'll provide some insight.  We use all natural ingredents like Oats, Almonds, Flax and Sunflower Seeds (whole not crushed!) Honey and Agave are used for sweetners.  If you are not familiar with Agave, Mara it is a syrup (made from the Agave plant) that is tasty and sweet but is only 11 on the Glycemic Index.

If you are not familiar with the Index, I recommend that you and your friends become familiar with it.  The scale goes to 100.  The higher the number the quicker the food turns to sugar.  Baked Potato is at the 100 level, Sugar is around 80, Honey is 55 and as I said Agave is 11.

When I formulated this snack I started with a recipe from Alton Brown on the Food Network, however he added a lot of sugar.  After months of trying different formulations and sweetners we were able to reformulate without adding any sugar.

The bars do have some sugar as the dried fruit and the chocolate have some added sugar but it is very low (under 10 grams of sugar per bar).

The best part about the bars is that on the way to finalizing the formula my two sons started bringing extra bars to school every day as their friends kept hitting them up for Granola Bars!  This has become the favoriate snack for their 11 and 16 year old friends.  My wife is very happy as she knows they are getting a healthy snack and I'm always inches away from a satisfying and substantial snack.

Dave,

That is great that you have lost the weight.  Products such as Jeff's will only help us achieve that goal.  I hope you remain under your doctors care and that you "dropped the meds" after his consultation.  It is always a good idea to listen to those who are entrusted with our health.  Dave thanks for sharing your weight loss success and not having to rely on meds anymore.

Hi Jeff,

I guess good news travels fast! Your welcome, I was glad to share your product with my "friends" and family here on Activerain.  Whenever I come across a product, service, or business. I like to share it with the world especially when it's an up and coming start-up with a good product such as yours.  I wish you great success Jeff and I will be on line shortly or maybe I'll walk across the street for another order.   Take care my friend.

On another note Jeff,  It just struck me, I was curious how you learned about my blog entry?  I just posted this last night and you already know about it!  Did I tell you I was going to write a blog about you and forgot?

Hey Pablo,

I just happened to be looking at the webstats for www.granolagourmet.com and saw a bunch of people from www.activerain.com came to the website.  I followed the link and searched for Granola Gourmet and came to your blog.

I was psyched when you scanned our card and put that up as well.  Thanks to you and everyone that's looked and ordered from us.
