Everyone has someone in their life who they believe is an absolutely unstoppable force. For me, this has been my wife. She is completely and totally unwaivering and unrelenting and for these reasons, I believe she is the single greatest person I have ever met. Unfortunately, I realized abruptly this past Thursday, that even if steel won't break, sometimes it does bend.

My wife had to have back surgery and is now for lack of better words out of commission. It's funny when you think of the fact that I am a grown man, and I still believed that their was someone on this Earth that was unstoppable. Don't you hate to face reality?

I was able to bring her home from the hospital the night of the surgery, but she has not been able to do much of anything. Which, in the end is fine with me, because I will be here to wait on her hand and foot for an eternity if necessary. It's just difficult to see the one person that always was there for me, now unable to do for herself. She is without question or doubt, the greatest single thing that has ever happened to me, and I know again without a doubt that this too shall pass. The question is simply when?

Earlier today, she bossed me around a little bit, so she is a little closer to normal. Hopefully this will all be over soon, and I can have my woman of steel back. It's the first and only time that I can recall being worried in 27 years of existence.

So, all hope is not lost in the end. As I said, I believe she is unstoppable. This may slow her down for a while, but I assure you that this will not stop her. Soon she will rise, and soon she will be out there outselling me again. For now, it's a matter of waiting, and since patience is one of the few things I consider myself good at, I will do just that........Wait.

I hope your wife makes a full recovery.  It is so sweet that you are taking care of her.  Sometimes even us 'Super Women' need a little help now and again.

Hi JL - I have a feeling you won't have to wait for long - the steel is still in there.  She must be frustrated - I was down with my back a few years ago - I hated being helpless.  Good you are there for her.  Really nice blog.  THANK YOU.

JL - not sure how I missed this post. I have been recovering from back surgery since last August. I have two steel rods, eight screws and a piece of my hip bone fused to a spinal vertebrae inside me! I wish your wife well. I truly understand what SHE is going through.

Simon-I'm sorry to hear that you understand her pain so well. You know the title of the blog is a figure of speech. She doesn't have as much metal in her as you seem to have. Hope everything is going well with your recovery.
