Welcome to the transformation of a Dover, NH condo...for background info and "before" photos see my previous post "Watch as we Transform..."

After an entire day of preparation, which included cleaning, scrubbing, and more cleaning, day one was exhausting.  Have you ever found hair in a microwave?  We did...it was nasty.  Hair was also in the refrigerator and the freezer.  This is a first for me.  Turns out the previous owner had two dogs.

Day two was the day that really felt like we accomplished something.  Demolition began on the kitchen wall, we were very happy to find no surprises there.   hole in wall

I did learn something though, I learned that the phrase "horse hair plaster" is actually literal.  It was interesting to see the actual hair in the plaster!

What an improvement, it really opens up the kitchen.

Love the paint color!  From your title I was afraid Hildi from Trading Spaces may have visited.  : )

As an owner of a furry, hairy, golden retriever, I understand the non stop hair issue. But seriously, in the fridge and microwave? That is just nasty!!! The homeowners should have invested in a vacuum and dog brush..sheesh

I love the paint color too!

Chris It really is a very warm color.  My daughter loves it.  No, Hildi didn't visit!

Heather  I've gone home from staging jobs in the past with furry socks from dog hair but I have not had appliances with hair issues before!  I don't think the floors were ever vacuumed or even swept, never mind washed.

For someone who doesn't own a cat, my furniture glides are always covered with cat hair! Love the transformations! Thanks for sharing.

Dear me!  What a job!  Was the horse hair in the plaster on purpose?

Elaine  Exactly how much hair is supposed to be in a post?  I should have hairless posts from this point forward!

Roberta  Isn't that awful, when you take home somebody elses hair...those glides are like magnets when it comes to hair.

Kristina  In the good old days, horse hair was added to plaster to make it stronger.  I had heard of horsehair plaster before but never knew it literally meant it had horse hair in it.  It's pretty freaky to see.

Sharon,

That paint color is outstanding. In the photo it looks like Range from C2.

kathy, audrey, susan and cindy:  It is a work of love...it will be such a sweet place when we are finished.  I'm so happy for my daughter and she is so excited.  She loves the color.  I will be using this color on jobs, for sure!  We started painting the dining room last night...same color...and I should have the next set of photos soon.

Thanks so much for sharing this project with us from the start.  i look forward to seeing the continued progress!  Just think about when those people have friends over for dinner.  There's probably all kinds of hair in their food!!  Ewwwwwww!!!!!!!!

Sandy  Trust me...people over for dinner consisted of ordered pizza or microwave food.  The good news for my daughter is that the stove and oven look like they were never used.  I'm headed over there again tonight, may have more pictures later on.

Barbara   Too early in the day for that visual!  It was pretty disgusting to keep finding it everywhere.  The place is pretty clean now though!  Except for the hardwood floors which we will give a good cleaning when all the construction is done.

Kym    The colors are really warm and rich.  Opening up that wall for the bar made a huge difference.

We worked all weekend and are spending a couple hours there this afternoon.  I hope to post with updates real soon!

Thanks for following our progress.

I like the molding under the two windows. Is this a shelf or ledge?

Mary Lou   Thank you.  My daughter loves darker colors.  She is very happy with my choices.

Kathy  It is a narrow shelf.  Nice "older home" details throughout.

Laraine:  Thank you so much!  They have been living there for nine months now.  They are very happy with their home.  We are currently in the process of fixing up a house for my son.  I will be posting photos from that project soon.

I discovered pethair in microwave .. found this blog while looking for good ideas to get rid of it.

The tricky part is that it doesn't sit on flat surfaces that would be too easy, it sorta gets caught around the grill made of lots of small round holes infront of the microwaves light.

I tried using the back of a sticker, tried tweezers(impossibly slow), tried using an attachment tool thing on a vaccuum cleaner but they don't budge.  I think turning microwave on its side and using some kind of toothbrush that won't be used again has some hope.

I think it is the very fact that hair sticks to everything so well that makes it so disgusting and that we don't ever want to eat it.

Scott:  You poor thing!  I totally feel for ya!  Finding hair in our appliances can be unsettling.  I think it is kinda funny you found this post, though, and I'm glad you took the time to write a comment.  I wish you the best of luck at removing that hair.  I wish I had some advice for you, but I really don't.
