Every few years, there is enough rainfall that the Rocky Broad River, the main tributary for Lake Lure, overflows its banks and fills the lake to a level to cause concern for boat owners. There is little or no potential for flooding residences, because water can only be as high as the top of the dam. The general sorts of damage involve boats that have their tops compressed when they press against the top of boathouse due to the rising water.

In order to alert us to such incidents, the Town of Lake Lure has instituted theCodeREDTM Emergency Notification System - an ultra high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications. This system allows them to telephone all or targeted areas of the Town in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action. Evidently it can also be used for delivering a boil-water notice, missing child or evacuation notices (this is in the event of flooding along the river upstream of the lake).

The system is capable of dialing 50,000 phone numbers per hour. It then delivers a recorded message to a live person or an answering machine, making three attempts to connect to any number.

In order to receive emergency notifications you must submit your information. Lake Lure property owners should go to http://www.townoflakelure.com/ and click on the CodeREDTM logo on the top part of the page and fill out the required information:

RESIDENTS: Enter your name, address and phone numbers to be contacted in case of emergency. You may add up to two emergency phone numbers.

BUSINESSES: When entering business information you must click on "Click to Switch to Business Data" button. Enter the business name, address and phone numbers to be contacted in case of emergency. You may add up to two emergency phone numbers.

This service will only be used in case of emergency. The information will remain completely private and will only be made available to notify you of critical situations. The town asks your cooperation to keep the database updated, please register.
