R.I.P. Jeff Healey

A modern-day music legend has passed away:  Jeff Healey, guitar virtuoso and a "musician's musician" succumbed to a lengthy battle with cancer Sunday at a Toronto Hospital.
Jeff's family asks that any memorials take the form of donations to
Daisy's Eye Cancer Research Fund, an organization
that he supported vigorously.

Blind since the age of 1, Healey is known for mastering a "Roadhouse Blues" style, yet having the talent to play jazz or other styles with anyone on the planet.  His duets with Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Ray Vaughan and countless others are video fixtures on You Tube and other popular video collections.

Jeff's easy-going manner and quick wit was featured in the movie "Road House," in addition to his Canadian radio show-with an impressive collection of (gasp) over 30,000 jazz albums.

Loved by millions, he touched the soul of music lovers worldwide.
Rest in peace, Jeff, your legacy is safe and will continue to bring light into people's hearts.

I'll bet there's one heck of a performance in heaven right now, with Jeff, Stevie Ray and all sorts of musicians trading licks!

Kent, I really liked him a lot.  I heard he passed away at 41 today.  I have so much respect for him.  Through all of his trials and tribulations he lived more than some people twice his age!

What a bummer! not that it was Oscar material but I love Roadhouse and he was one of the things that made that movie a cult classic. My condolences to his family.

Hi Kent, I was shocked when I heard the news about Jeff. I used to be in the music biz and met him many years ago here in Montreal, a really nice, down to earth guy. He'll be missed.

Also... if you're a fan of SRV, try to find his performance on PBS(Austin City Limits), he did a couple of wicked concerts just before he died and an amazing rendition of Hendrix's Voodoo Child. Later...

Kent, Nice thoughts about a very special human being. Watched him perform many times; very solid and caring guy. One less voice of reason in a music business filled with jerks.

Audrey-the life lived cannot be quantified in pages on a calendar!

Rob - he really was a good addition to that cast, huh?

marti - you better believe I've seen SRV's performances on Austin City Limits!  It is interesting to watch him progress and gain confidence in his stage presence through the years.  I'll have to tell you my story about SRV "following" my buddy & I from bar to bar on 6th Street in Austin someday...

Kim - very nice comment, Thank You
